Yes, it does. Affirmative action does not discriminate against straight white men to oppress them; it corrects for the past and ongoing oppression of other groups. Scirotto went about it poorly, but the goal (making the police department more representative of the community) matters.
Absolutely disagree with this. It is not legal for that to be the only criteria for hiring decisions. It can only be one factor in recruitment and creating a pool of potential candidates. Scirotto allegedly openly disqualified qualified candidates based solely on their race or "color." Clearly illegal in my opinion and not something that is remotely helpful to anyone.

Speaking of head to head…

Connor McCaffery. He's a better baseball player than he is a basketball one, I have read. He is one of the lesser basketball gifted of the top 9 Hawkeye players; but his reaction speed, defense, 3 point shooting (lately), and True Grit are one of the many reasons for Iowa's recent run. He made the hustle/tough guy play of ripping away a key TJD fully gathered rebound that sent TJD flying, turning that IU game around on a single play.

Yeah, these two seniors have each been raised in their schools' respective states, are adored by their teammates, and obviously do not like each other. It's like looking in a mirror. It absolutely has to transfer over to each other's teams. This is going to be fun.

If you believe Hunter Dickenson, and on this occasion, I do, the other teams in the B1G do not like Illinois. Maybe it is because we have been the dominant team these last couple of years, or because we talk some trash, or maybe because DMV drills the other players in the head with the basketball whenever he gets the excuse to do so. But for whatever reason, it seems that we get everyone's best shot. Pretty obvious this year, as the teams that have managed to beat us generally lose their next game. Think the team is developing what could be considered rivalries with about everyone now.

Nice post and I mostly agree, but one quibble: DMW does not need any excuses to drill other players in the head with basketballs. I feel like he does it out of pure enjoyment.

Michigan doesn't like Illinois because we beat the crap out of them, and dared claim the B1G regular season title that they were given, but didn't win. To make it personal Kofi dominates him easily. I don't think that when Michigan plays other B1G teams they spend their time talking about whether they like Illinois.
Handshake line after the game, "Good game, I don't like Illinois. Do you?" "Nope, nobody does."

That was a great night! Me and a buddy had seats right by where that block happened. We were jacked to see what that team was going to do in the tourney. Then 2 days later the world shut down.:(
watching this game at a bar with my now fiancé is my last “pre-COVID” memory

I think his quote about us not being a big ten power is how most players in the conference feel. At their age based on what they’ve witnessed, their perspective could legitimately be that we’re not much different from northwestern. We seem like a cocky up and coming program to them, and I can see the dislike for that. It’s like flashing new money vs being classy and reserved with old money. It’s just their ignorance, but the good news is, learning by doing creates the strongest connection. And what they’re doing is losing almost every game they play vs Illinois the last 3 years.

Strange outlook. Certainly most people would love an opponent who kicks their butt.

Its good to be hated by opposing teams. It means we're doing something right:cool: I certainly don't miss the Gross Era or the last years of the Weber era. I never want Illinois to go back to that. Coach Underwood has been building something special and I'm glad he's our head coach and think he'll have our boys dialed vs Iowa, then B10 tourney and then the Big Dance (where we have unfinished business to take care of )

Let's go ILLINI! Beat iowa and win out!:illinois::shield::chief::hailtotheorange::ah:

Iowa plays 7 guys heavy minutes, and 2 more of their 6 guards decent minutes. They can also bring in an additional freshman 6'7" guard that can hit the three and ball handle, and has seen good minutes in the last several games, albeit mostly at home. I want to know who is going to match up when Connor McCaffery (6'5"), Kris Murray (6'8"), and Keegan Murray (6'9") are on the floor at the same time. Michigan had an answer for Connor, but not the other two. And I've said this before; I despise MI, but nobody in the B1G has basketball athletes 1-10 like they do.

Really hope RJ is back for this one. His length and springiness will help, probably a stuff ton (assuming he's healthy).
I like RJ as much as the next guy, but he was only averaging 9 minutes a game over the previous five games before he went down with his injury. I agree he could provide a spark off the bench, but that's about it.

I want to be ahead by 20 in the last 15 seconds and then call 3 timeouts. Then squawks start a fight and are penalized with ban on postseason play (for the next 3 years). This will cause their recruiting to drop off so badly that when we play them in 2025 we shut them out 96-0.
That might blow the top off the Francon meter.

This one kind of feels to me like when we went to Rutgers. Don't have good vibes. Hope I'm wrong.

I do like that Hawkins and Curbelo will put up two pointers. I know Brad prefers the three, but we seem to be a team that has three scoring options: Kofi, the three, and layups. There's a lot of room for guys like Hawkins and RJ to get theirs in the intermediate area; they both have length and finesse. DMW shot 4 of 10 and Hawk 0 of 4. I was DMW hit that 4th shot so I have some confidence but watching that game I really too missed RJ. I think RJ is someone I will feel better about when and if others defend our 4 like that.
Agreed, after the Penn St game I think we may be defended much like they did. Leaving Coleman and DMW open threes in favor of making it very difficult for the others. DMW hitting that 4th 3 out if 10 attempts and Coleman was 0 for 4. That defense concerns me but not nearly as much if RJ is in the game. I don't think opponents would leave him open to shoot wide open threes like they did DMW and Hawk. I hope those 3 boys are working hard on their 3s and I'm sure they are.

I agree. You cannot use race as a main qualifier. Character, ability and work ethic is a higher priority than gender or race. Sciotto never should ref another game. You have to be unbiased and call the game fairly. He is incapable of doing that. I hope Warren, for once, does the right thing and sit him.
