There's been some really good progress made the last few days. I expect to see a different team starting on Thursday

Hope you don't have too many chips.
North Carolina lost 4 by Jan 5 last year including a 29 point loss to Kentucky, snagged an 8 seed IIRC and made it to the national final. Don't think it would be possible for a B1G team to get a 16 seed, but it is not unheard of to struggle early and make the Final Four. Izzo has done it a couple of times IIRC. We have proven we can beat good teams, so as long as we can make the field we have a punchers chance regardless of the struggles we may have along the way.
That said, would much prefer we get it together and finish top 4 in the B1G, get a good seed and make a run.
Loyalty will be much more pleasant to read that way.

assuming our team stays intact, i think the holiday break came at an excellent time. hopefully everyone (IL included) had a chance to step away, reflect, and refocus.

2016 Rutgers would have been an interesting case. They won five games in the non-conference vs. teams with an average KenPom rank of 319, the best being Fairleigh Dickinson at 280. Then they went winless in conference until beating Minnesota (KenPom rank 192) in the final game of the regular season. Ended 6-25 (1-17) with a KenPom rank of 279, below four of the six 16-seeds.

2008 Georgia won their conference tournament after going 17-17 (4-12) and were a 14-seed. But they had several decent wins, and finished the season with a KenPom rank of 91.

I think a B10 team could get a 16 seed, but it would be extremely unlikely because so many things would have to go right (wrong?). It would require the team to be at 2016 Rutgers levels of bad, then make a miracle run in the conference tournament while the top teams lose early (so they don't have any really good wins). And even then, they might need help from better-than-usual bottom teams to free up space for 16-seeds.

2008 Georgia is an outlier as they were basically carrying the entire weight of the state after the tornadoes that hit downtown Atlanta during the SEC Tournament.

There is virtually next to no chance that a Power 5 school gets a 16 seed as they'd have to be worse than a MEAC or SWAC school and there is next to no chance that happens.

Anyone know if this happens will the ushers allow you to move down to empty seats?
I will be there. Hope they usher us down a bit if there are seats. Did the black Friday and have 8 total tickets. They put us in the very top row. Will shop by seat next time for sure. Probably the only row with 8 consecutive seats so completely on me. We will still have a great time! I-L-L!

Louisville is definitely bad enough to be 16-seed worthy this year. But you still have to wonder if they'd ever be a 16-seed. If they somehow won the ACC tourney, it would probably mean they beat at least a fringe top-25 team, and that win alone could be enough to bump them up to a 15. I really hope it happens at some point - some kind of 5-25 power conference team making a miracle conference tourney run - just to see what the committee does.

Interesting that Brad says we are a great cutting team and that the numbers prove it. I see tons of standing around while whoever has the ball does a few iso dribbles and then passes to whatever guy is standing stationary nearby.

listened to BU's presser and here are my thoughts..............................

1. BU's " UM " play is still at his consistent normal rate of 16-18 " UM's " per minute.....I would really be worried if his " UM "rate was elevated due to the shoddy play we have been seeing......................

2. I have to question BU's definition of our half court D as being ELITE ??..................Analytics are one thing.....what i have been seeing is not elite D.....JMHO

3. BU brought up analytics on our offense and had some rates on FG eff. and FT rate.......WTF...........we don't shoot FT's well at all......He mentioned us taking contested shots with 17-18 seconds on the clock and not having patience.....Well BU , what is it ....??....A under 7 seconds offense or a milk the clock offense ?
whatever you want to call it , our O has , at times , been very offensive to watch.....

4. Finally mentioned using the benching of players making mistakes and learning from increased bench time as a weapon to reducing mistakes.....duh......it's been that way since I played HS BB way back in the mid to late 60's........A cohesive team plays without over thinking and at a pace where the team uses the skills of the players on the court to make team plays..........key word is TEAM........we are individuals playing as 5 separate entity's instead of a TEAM.....

5. He was asked about Zach P.......BU mentioned he measured 7' 1" and 220 in shoes.....really ??.....I guess i missed the height # on him.......

I still believe in BU and this team , but , something has to change for us going forward or this will be a tortuous B$G season .....

Tweaks and adjustments are great if needed and we surely need them......The psu and misery games show that.......The ucla and texas games show us at our best ...........Which team shows up the most for the remainder of the season , good , bad or ugly will determine if we.......

1 . make the tourney
2. make it to the second weekend of the tourney or farther
3. or flame out in the first round......

I will watch every second of every game and hope for the best ......I've seen the worst this year and am ready for the best to come out each and every game remaining on our schedule .....I hope the players feel that way also......

Finally , it should be interesting to see who starts the next game and how many minutes each player gets after the BU and staff have examined the good and bad play of all the players up to this point .......that's what BU said the staff did over this holiday break.....I hope they found some answers to this
perplexing play we all have witnessed....We can be VERY VERY good AND we can be VERY VERY bad,,,,,,,,,I hope for the former , not the latter.....

As always , JUST MY HUMBLE OPINION...........................

#2) Agreed…if we’re elite on half court D. That seems like a low bar to me; and like you said that just proves analytics aren’t everything. In fact, I thought that was actually one of our definite weaknesses.
Guys have been out of position aplenty…We were over-compensating on the weak side of the floor if memory serves correct…(according to Brad himself I believe.) If they’ve cleaned it up, I’ll give ‘em credit but I’m not seeing it on the court. ??

#3) That was my thoughts as well…what good is a high Free-Throw rate if you shoot 60-some percent from the foul-line? Feels like a fair amount of straw-grasping on that one to me…as to the 7sec stuff. That’s supposed to be in transition. We’re looking for a quick numbers advantage. We have a 5-man #ed break that ran really well with Ayo at times….(he alluded to it…I guess one more thing we have trouble getting into with this unit?)
after the numbered break…THEN some …teams, but not all roll into a quick secondary break(Kansas comes to mind)…that still is looking for an easy score but a little more deliberate then the initial fastbreak…(Do we have a secondary break in the playbook…I dunno?)

THEN finally rolling into the half-court offense where Underwood apparently wants them to be under control and patient…and looking for the defense to break down…milking the shot-clock
IF we don’t get anything with our initial
push in our transition.

#4) I agree about utilizing the bench. Man if I had guys that didn’t wanna pass the ball or screen for someone else I would have already sent them there…at least for a visit. It will be interesting what happens playing Bethune-Cookman…and it not effecting Conference standing in any way. It might be a REAL good opportunity to get some of these bench players some PT. If there is ANY sort of: obvious “Me-Shot, Hero-Ball, Hotdog Extra-Relish” type stuff I gotta admit…I’ll be annoyed if he doesn’t utilize the bench like he said.

Reminds me of a History professor I had back in college....He would say " I know nothing about art.....but I know good art when I see it"......that's kind of where I'm at with all the analytics in sports....I know they have their place and value....but I know good basketball when I see it....I don't need a lot of stats to tell that it's good, when my eyes tell me otherwise
