Illinois vs Michigan, Saturday, October 19th, 2:30pm CT, CBS

I think we can score on Michigan. Their D isn't terrible. But to win this game, we need to absolutely need to figure out how to stop a running QB. If we can't, this is going to be another frustrating game. Can someone on the outside on D learn what contain means?

Jack Tuttle is starting, not Alex Orji.

Curious how many Michigan fans there will be there. On one hand, the game selling out (an obvious rarity in Champaign over the last many years) indicates more orange shirts in the stands. Also, Michigan is having a bit of a 2006-Illini-basketball-esque hangover season where you are still good, but it's pretty hard to keep fan enthusiasm as high as the season before with everything you lost. On the other hand, Michigan usually brings one of the bigger contingents to Champaign (I think).

My uneducated self would have put UI as a slight favorite before the Purdue game. Now, it's hard to get a feel for this game. I do not predict a blowout by either side, though.

UI - 33
UM - 31

Great defense for 3 quarters against Purdue. Then we turned into a flag football team and gave up 40 points in 20 minutes. I don't know why Bret did not call timeout on Purdue' last drive to give the defense a chance to reset. If our defense has become that bad we will be lucky to finish 6-6.

Our DC has to be able to do in game adjustments. The quarterback keeper was good for 118 yards against us.

Michigan will run it down our throats and I have zero faith we will be able to do anything to stop it. At this point, I'm hoping for the magic of the moment to carry us because, man, I don't have faith we can do it on our own.
Getting healthy on defense might help a bit. What’s the status on some of the missing guys like Xavier Scott?

I understand the Michigan skepticism. They're 1-5 ATS and Vegas is tired of it.

I just don't understand how you square us being 19.5 point dogs at PSU, missing a cover by over 20 points against Purdue, and now we're only +1 against Michigan.

You can talk me out of Michigan -10. But anything less than about Michigan -6 I just cannot make fit with what we've seen.

I guess we'll see what public money does to the line.

Can't bet in-state college games.
No - this a common misconception, you can bet in person (may be a drive to a casino though). Also if the line is so off and I was so confident I’d make sure I can make that bet somewhere.

The line actually shifted more to our favor as you said to plus 1, opened more then that.

Originally, Illinois prohibited betting on all in-state college teams. In late 2021 that was amended to allow bets to be accepted on Illinois college teams, so long as the bets were placed in-person at retail shops.

I did not know this, thank you!

Going to take a stroll down to the sportsbook attached to Wrigley and bet on Michigan because I am a terrible, terrible human being.

(EDIT: 🤬)

The law changed again in July. No betting on Illinois college teams period. Many betting sites do not share this recent update. I did not realize this until recently as well (when it was pointed out by another poster).

Would you be surprised if Penn State was a neutral site double digit favorite against Michigan? I wouldn't be. If that is true, then the difference between at PSU, vs. Michigan at home accounts the majority of the disparity there.

Yup, that's asking exactly the correct question, and yeah, I feel like 10 (really more like 12) would be too much.

No one will be happier than me if Michigan sucks but it feels premature to draw that conclusion.
