Does anyone know how reclassifying works. My son is a senior to be with straight As and multiple AP classes. He does not have the requirements to graduate after junior year. There is a state required government class that you cannot take as a junior, but you can take during summer.

Illinois requires 4 years of English and math to be admitted. Do they just waive it?

They take "accelerated" coursework, online classes and/or summer school for extra credits. The upperclassmen US gov requirement tends to be HS specific, kids can take it earlier.

I'd also wager that the education at Link Academy has a different focus than your son's school.

The most common solution I've seen is summer school. Classes taken at a Jr college can often get both HS and college credit. Select the courses based on what the college will take. Double check with the HS.

I don't know if you are actually asking about how your son could graduate early or just questioning how these athletes do it, but if it is the latter...

They go to prep schools in different states where they get to focus on basketball and basically get whatever they need "academically". I'd guess that most of them leave a lot to be desired with SAT and ACT scores. Just because someone gets credit for a class, doesn't mean they are any better off or learned anything from it.

BTW, I'm not being an old man complaining, because I could care less, since I know college basketball is now a job, not about an education.

Seems a little low in the rankings for what the staff has been targeting since Antigua came back.

I'm a bit curious about that finnish or swedish 7 footer that has some Grant Nelson vibes though.
Are we still interested in any Illinois '25s?

I wouldn’t say it’s done deal that’s he’s reclassifying … But it’s on the table …

There’s always a reason a kid slams in 3 visits in a weeks time right before Peach Jam …

And there’s also a reason Brad went back to the big boy donors and said be ready for my call …

And I’ll tell y'all right now … If Brad goes to those guys and says I can get Jasper … Here’s the amount … For this year … As long as it’s the number I’ve been told … They’ll do it …

Boosters got that Elite 8 taste last year and they want an f’ing natty …

While at first glance Jasper reclassifying to ‘24 would seem like it would be hard for us to get him given the other guards we have- if you look at the other schools he just visited we are by far the best spot for him
Alabama- Sears is the leading player of the year candidate and will be the dominant scorer for a staked team
Kentucky - has very experienced guards that will get a lot of shots, Kriisa, Robinson, Oweh
UNC- has RJ Davis as primary scorer and stacked at guard

Here, he would start and one of Boswell or KJ starts at PG and the other comes off the bench. His path to playing time, while crowded, is better here than any of the other top schools he’s considering

We have three legitimate guards on the roster right now, so we're definitely not that deep. Kasparas is (based on everything we've heard and read) a guaranteed starter. Kylan is at this point a starter, but Johnson would likely bump him.

I agree - his path to playing time is better here than at the others on his list.

No clue. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if they tried to get a cheap lower ranked kid with some upside to redshirt and fill out the end of the bench like Jaksty should do this year.

With NIL its hard to fill out some of those last few roster spots so I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to get some developmental in state kids that wouldn't necessarily mind sitting on the end of the bench.

I think he’s gonna wind up following a career path similar to Adam Miller …
If you watched this year’s draft, at least 11 of the picks came from overseas. Many of the U.S. players drafted were on NBA scouts’ radars coming out of high school. Guys like Cody Williams, Ja’Kobe Walter, Reed Sheppard are just gifted differently (I’d lump KJ and WR with that group) and the league wants them young. They were all taken ahead of TSJ, who had to grind for 5 years to make the 1st round. Fears seems like he’ll have to follow the TSJ path.

Reminder of the most recent Illinois draftees. Do you see Fears developing into someone of that quality? I have my doubts, but I hope he does…Podz shocked us all.

That list just shows how impressive BU has been. We’ve had 2 fringe first round type guys in the past 5 years, he’s gotten us the most big ten wins, 3 big ten championships (should be 4), an elite 8 and a number 1 seed. He’s been able to roster construct and coach up the Trent’s, d’montes, Feliz, grandersons, Giorgi B, etc.

Assuming he is landing the right attitude guys, imagine what he can do with this next level of talent.

Easy, the education system accommodates the athletics, not the other way around. Once you view it through that lens, it's mostly just formalities and paperwork.
