wee will see. if we want to I have no doubts we can. But with Curbelo back for next year and possibly another after that plus Epps, we have two point guards right there. Plus, there is going to be a big name guard coming through the portal for next year

Every time I hear "the portal" and especially "coming through the portal," I can't help but imagine he's getting transported here from another dimension or planet.

This. Curbelo is the wild card here. If he's back for his senior year, that's going to be a deterrent. Maybe even a show stopper. Ames is going to get the keys from the get go from a lot of coaches (in order to secure his commitment, plus he's pretty damn good). Unless you're in Ames' head, hard to determine how he feels about limited minutes his freshman year.

Dai Dai is very good. My only complaint on him is it looks like he isn't going 100% all the time. Could just be appearance of course.

If we get him, we shouldn't feel awful about missing on Boswell. Boswell is better, but it is not a head and shoulders better thing. I think Boswell is head and shoulders better than Fears, but Ames is better than Fears.

Looks like through 15 games, Ames has had some injuries, he's shooting 65% from the field, 51% from 3, and 83% FT. Having a base level of quality shooting is huge. I also think his shooting can be improved. He doesn't get much rotation on the ball. I think he can be a 40%+ 3 point shooter in college and 80%+ FT shooter.
So by development we can get his 51% to 40%?

I assume this big-name guard will have plenty of suitors, though. And would Ames be deterred by Curbelo when that's two years down the line? I can't see it. I also doubt he'd be too worried about Epps--not that Epps isn't a stud. But someone of Ames' caliber isn't concerned about competition from a top-50 player. JMHO.

Is it a big name like Tikki Tikki Tembo-no Sa Rembo-chari Bari Ruchi-pip Peri Pembo or somebody good at basketball?

If you’re right, and I assume you are, I’d make it happen. Just for the sake of optics. Landing a McDonald’s all American would be huge for Underwood in terms of recruiting in state kids.

Lifelong Illini fan & first time having a source on a real recruit that I would consider an "insider."

KB has been wined & dined by Arizona for a year via AZ Compass Prep. He's had access to players, even some NBA players down there (super connected). Illinois, the midwest and B1G were never serious options for him but his mom, in particular, wanted him to seriously consider it. Dad (Brandon) doesn't care as long as KB is happy.

Rumor is that yes, AZ's NIL "promise" was much higher than ours because we're already (likely) over-promised to Kofi/Belo/Epps & Rodgers. And the Boswells wanted $250K cash up front.

Not sure where your info is coming from but its absolutely not true.

Not sure how I feel about the shift from "we might end up with two of Fears, Boswell and Aimes" to "we passed on Fears because we have a strong preference for Boswell and Aimes" to "we passed on Fears, missed on Boswell, and now we may also pass on Aimes." Especially in a season where we did struggle from lack of point guard skills when Curbelo was out.

Why did we chase that IDK guard from AZ then?

Dai Dai is not too far behind that kid
