Curious to know how we stand with the following:

Mayan Kiir
Derek Culver
Terrence Lewis
Nojel Eastern
Theo John

If we are lucky enough to get Frazier and Goodwin to commit, we have one spot open. Those five are my preferred in that order. How are we looking with these guys? Are there other players that we have a legit shot at?

I completely forgot about Justin Smith. Do we have a shot at him, or is the Chicago circus to big of a hurdle?

I don't think it has anything to do with a Chicago circus. I just think some others have better shots at him than us.

How many times in the last 20 years has a recruited athlete walked on because because there weren't enough scholarships available? I can think of one at Duke.

Dougie McBuckets senior year. But that is a really special case. Kid knew he was a 1st rounder, dads program made a big conference upgrade, got an injury exception for a key player on their team.

Prolly won't see another situation like that for a long time.

The kid can play. I've seen him several times. He was not bait. They wanted him. It is insulting to the kid to say he was taken to lure others. He was taken on his on merit.

:thumb: A lot of Pickett doubters out there. Some are people who have probably never watched him play.

With Kiir, I think Louisville is his first choice. I believe his AAU coach was the guardian for a kid from Africa who is on the UL team now. UL has other guys higher on their board so if they get one of those then we have a decent shot.

Kiir: the staff thinks they have a shot since they have been to multiple AAU games of his.
Culver: No news/chatter and WVU is thought to be the leader.
Lewis: Still in it as he has talked about another visit, but the momentum seems to be heading away from us.
John: Top 6 and is looking to take an official here.
Eastern: His recruitment still seems pretty open.

Have to add the 6' 10-11" Aussie Epperson to the mix. Going to LaLu. Doesn't wow you with his clips, but oozes potential. Unless there's a factor I'm unaware of (e.g. a sibling at SMU), we have a good shot.

I've also seen us listed with Malik Williams from Ft Wayne IN. I'm guessing he's a complete long shot also.
He's a domino for us. If he goes to Louisville, it improves our chances with Kiir.

In regard to the Mike Finke walk on...ummm...speculation, there's probably a better shot of a scholarship opening from JCL going pro after his Jr season.

I just read up a little on Jacob Epperson and I'm super intrigued. In his highlights, he seems to have really good reaction time and hand-eye coordination. I didn't know this before, but his dad, Ken Epperson, is from Louisville, KY and played at Toledo, where he's still the all-time leading scorer and rebounder. Ken Epperson moved to Australia after college to play pro ball. So the kid is half-American, comes from good basketball bloodlines, and is 6'11 and an okay athlete. Seems very skilled: really good passer and shooter, apparently. He'd fit into a frontcourt with Tilmon, Finke, and Black perfectly. After Culver and RaiQuan Gray (both extreme long shots, IMO), Epperson might be my top choice.

Good digging, thanks.

Agreed that Gray is an extreme longshot. The calculus may have changed w/Culver (landing Tilmon), don't know. Kiir may fall into someone's lap, should the Ville land their Plan A guy. Why not us? But, hell yeah, Epperson's solidly in our Plan A mix, AFAIC.

On Epperson, doesn't appear to nearly the outside shooter that Froling is. Needs strength, much better competition and repetition. But the ceiling is very high.

Regarding our remaining spots, I agree with most that we lead with Goodwin and Frazier. MSU, Texas, and Indiana seem to only slight interest in Goodwin, while Illinois has the most interest and inside edge. Frazier also has been offered by other schools, but only Illinois appears to have been in very early and all in (fully committed).

I'm starting to think we will get a 5th year transfer to go along with Tilmon as a sophomore. As much as I like Culver (NBA potential, high bb skills), Kiir(athletic potential), and John(Augustine 2.0). I think others lead. But we do need some young bigs for the future.

Not sure why we haven't offered yet.

Speaking of offers, UIC went Fire-crazy today, offering Jacobs, Kejaun Clements and Kahlil Whitney of the Fire 15u and Bakari Simmons and Kezo Brown of the Fire 16u. Can't blame McClain for thinking ahead and thinking big but these guys are going to be swimming in high major offers by the time they're juniors and/or seniors. Kezo is definitely back and Jacobs and Whitney are the two best sophomores in Chicago -- even though Whitney -- and Simmons it was announced today --are transferring to an academy in New Jersey to play this season.
Kind of rare to see a Simeon kid transferring out of state, especially when the kid's dad (Bobby Simmons) was a star there 20 years ago.

Malik is an extreme long shot.

But I want Kiir in the worst way possible and Derrik Piper says that if Louisville gets Malik than our chances with Kiir go way up.

So here's to Malik committing to Louisville.

Yeah, that's the ticket. Kiir's ceiling is stratospheric, IMO.

Just out of curiosity, anyone know which schools have offered Goodwin in football? I know Iowa is one of them.

i think Iowa State is the only other P5 college that offered him a football scholarship.
