Definitely agreeThese type of QB transfers could be interesting to the staff depending on (a) if they bring in a one-year starter like Armstrong and/or (b) does Art come back. A one-year start and Art moving on could lead to the staff bringing in a guy like Hornsby with the hopes he can win the backup job in 2023 camp and then have a chance to win the job in 2024 camp. Could be a worthwhile risk for the right staff (coaches on the hot seat) or right situation (hypothetical above) because they either were well-regarded preps behind established starters (Hornsby) or injuries have limited their opportunities. I don't consider Card in this group because he's played enough at Texas to show he is successful, just not successful enough to unseat Ewers.
Card is a real talented young man that will have his pick of schools. Ewers on the roster he saw the writing on the wall before Manning even committed to Texas. The appeal about Card is having a few years of eligibility. First concern is always have a competent QB. The "wish list for me" would be to have a QB that could play more than one season instead of switching in and out each season. Illinois will definitely have some QBs transfer out if not this year, than next year. It happened before the portal and will at multiple positions. The main difference now is we are adding more quality recruits and depth.
