Illinois at Nebraska, Friday, September 20th, 7:00pm CT, FOX

Nebraska has always been a tough test for this team. Today was not a smooth game, but they did win. I little shine was taken off when Kansas lost last night.
I would instead say, "Nebraska is a traditional top 10 goliath in all-time NCAA football lore. However, as they've struggled mightily over the past 25 years, Nebraska has been clearly within our reach."

Would like to see us starting doing some mesh routes. Last year IW had a ton of success with it and it helps compliment the run game

It would be a big one, but I think the 9OT win at Penn State or the 2022 rout of Wisconsin in Madison would still be top 2.
I think a 9 OT win is a signature for somebody’s career. And it was on the road at #7 in front of 105k of their fans. Imagine what kinda game he would need to override that.

I’ve watched tape on Raiola and I’m watching tonight. Kid is really, really good. Our only hope on him is that he hasn’t faced a P4-level defense yet (idk if you wanna call Colorado that). I think, if he can’t read our defense disguising well, we have a good chance. But our offense has to be way way better.

They gave up 16 yards rushing to Colorado. That’s not a typo. Not a strong believer that our run game is gonna win us that one.

Let’s see them against some tougher competition.

Our lines are a mess right now, need to get that figured out. OG are getting pushed into the backfield before the RB even gets the ball. Our D-Line still isn't getting much pressure and giving up runs up the gut to inferior teams. I thought the Oline would be one of our strongest position groups coming into the year and our D-Line would at least be serviceable. If we can get some of these issues resolved we'll have a really good shot at an upset this Friday. If not covering the spread might be the best we could hope for.

We only got 21 rushing yards last year, and Luke put it up 47 times. If they stop our run game this year (likely), I strongly believe Luke can keep us in a good position with a much stronger performance than last year.

The following is possible:
*UNLV is a solid team.
*KU and Illini are both solid teams.
*Illini beat KU in "win the games you should" fashion (hyped up home game).
*Colorado is not a solid team.
*Nebby has beaten nobody (not saying they're not a solid team, but imo less can be concluded about them than people are concluding).
*Frosh QB melts down facing tricky defensive secondary.
*Illini win ugly, low-scoring slugfest.

Pressure 100% on them

But I suspect the line is gonna be rude for this one. 14? More?
i’m guessing more like 12

I would be shocked if the line is that high.

#6 Missouri (home) v. #24 Boston College and the line closed at Mizzou -14.5.

Nebraska's fan following should push a higher spread but I would guess -8.5

Nebraska is really good. But not unbeatable. I’ve watched the last two games, and nothing from them is absolutely terrifying me even though they are impressive.

Keep Raiola in the pocket and get pressure up the middle. Don’t settle for field goals. Force a couple of turnovers and score on them.

Do a couple of those, and I think Illinois can spring one.

So will we be ranked? Loss by BC at #24 and Arizona at #20. Will Texas A&M jump us?

We're the best team they'll have played so far this season. Travis Hunter is good but Colorado has zero depth and not a complete roster. I think we can compete with Nebraska, but actually winning the game is unlikely.

I like our chances to win 6 or 7 this year, but I just don’t see us winning this one.

First road game of the year, which is almost always a loss.

We can’t run the ball and struggle with stopping the run.

I see us losing this one and Penn St, but then beating Purdue & Michigan.
I don’t see this as a chalk game for nebby. Two score underdogs feels right, but I don’t think we need more than a couple break for this to swing our way. Feagin needs to use momentum literally to his advantage. Franklin is an elite safety valve. Bryant is an NFL WR. If we can kick it up a notch in the trenches, this won’t be an easy out for nebby.
