Giorgi like Kofi would screen the lane to allow drivers. Omar needs some coaching on that. Think many people undervalued him just like many people are with Hawk. Can’t seem to look beyond the points line.Giorgi would've been good to have tonight.
Oh man, I miss him a little bit, if I'm honest. Never thought I'd say that.TV Teddy respectfully requests a seat at that table
My mind is made up; don't confuse me with dataAccording to KenPom ratings. Voters won't see it that way.
I think this could have been in part by underwood not resting any staters with a thirty point lead at minnyPlummer 4-14 / Grandy 2-12. Kofi sits for much of first half. 48-hr turnaround after 10 days of almost no conditioning and practice.
And we win by 12.
ILL- take it.
To me, it was a lot less about not having Kofi and a lot more about our energy level. I thought we looked pretty sluggish even before Kofi got his second foul. It does change our offensive approach when he's not out there but when everybody stands around, it's pretty tough to score. So is the first half going to look like our future without kofi?

I agree with this. One of Monte's attempts in the first half was wide open, and he barely touched the bottom of the rim. And Kofi was gassed but something took over and he went into beast mode. It was all heart in the second half for the Illini! Like Coach A said before the game, this is like an NCAA tourney matchup. Play one night and turnaround and play less than 48 hours later. To me, it was a lot less about not having Kofi and a lot more about our energy level. Hawkins has his moments but he has a lack of basketball sense. Also Too many times the ball comes to him and we have to resett our offense. The last week there was a lit but of hand wringing about Hawkins but he was the only player with any real time off bench and in 19 minutes had 8 points and 8 rebounds. Of those rebounds he had 6 on the offensive end which really seems to be a strength of his.
Garza missed 206 more 3-pt shots than Kofi.Jon must not be counting 3-pt shots/pct as "numbers". Thinking that Luka holds a slight advantage there.
Different games for sure.
Can we get a gif of this!! It was fantasticThat was hysterical. Curbelo is such a clown.

Posted exactly the same points around a week ago and agree wholeheartedly. He gets a nod from me for hard work, listening to his coaches, and making those adjustments. The quicker he gets at passing out of doubles and triples, the better this team will be.I don’t know if Kofi will make it in NBA, but with the improvements he’s shown this year I wouldn’t bet against him. His improvement in FT shooting and passing back out of the post has had a huge impact on the team. He’s not perfect at either, but what strides he’s made. His footwork has also greatly improved this year. He still puts up a wonky weak shot here and there, but most of the time he has a plan and purpose with the ball. With the improvements to his game, I don’t think Kofi is done growing his game.
This is 100% accurate. I have been as tough on Hawk as anyone, but I think his last 2 games (Minny and MD) have actually been his best of the year. Once he stopped forcing things and has (largely) played within his current abilities, he’s been very good. He also works hard on D, even if he has an occasional goof on that end. He rebounds well, and when he doesn’t force drives or shots, is a good player. Those things will come in time. His future is very bright, and accepting his current role as a role player will pay great dividends for the team this year and his long term development and potential stardom in Champaign. You don't get 6 offensive rebounds through a lack of basketball sense. Hawkins in still trying to figure out what he can and can't do against high level competition. Early in the season he was able to do whatever he wanted against the little guys and BU even said in his presser that was a disservice to Hawkins playing him out if his role like that. When the competition went up a level he struggled because he was trying to do the same things against better players and it wasn't working.
Hawkins is a smart and skilled player but is basically a freshman as far as playing time is concerned and for someone with his unique size and skillset it can take longer to figure out what he can reliably do in game action.
Gotcha! I overlooked all of that. Guess I didn't go deep enough into the details while doing my analysis!!!Garza missed 206 more 3-pt shots than Kofi.
If Kofi makes his next attempt, he'll pass Garza in 3-pt pct.
The numbers favor Kofi.
In all seriousness though, the fact that Kofi is putting up over 22 pts per game without a 3 point shot may be even more impressive.
In addition to this, I've been increasingly impressed with his ability to give smaller guards problems on a switch. His lateral movement is much better this year. That's key in the NBA world, it seems.I don’t know if Kofi will make it in NBA, but with the improvements he’s shown this year I wouldn’t bet against him. He sure as hell owned the second half. He's not just a strong beast anymore. His game has improved in all regards, including footwork and FT shooting.Kofi just owned this game. Just owned it.
