Illinois 31, Nebraska 24 OT Postgame

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet since I don't want to read through all the pages of posts, but before the season many were chalking this game up as a loss purely because Illinois has made it a tradition to lose their first true road game of the season. You have to go all the way back to 2010 when Illinois beat Penn State 33-13 in Happy Valley to find a first road game victory against a team that finished the season with a winning record (PSU finished 7-5). The other 3 wins since then (Indiana in 2011, Rutgers 2018, UConn 2019) were against awful teams that finished 1-11/2-10.

Ok, so did anyone else see the replay on Fox after Luke scored the first TD (I think that’s where it was), where if I were a lip reader, I’d say Luke said, “ F&/! yeah!”??? It would make a heck of a meme if someone more talented than I could find it and create it!

Just finished the game on tape delay, and haven’t read any comments.

Want to respond to my pregame statements and applaud Lunney for what I think is the best playcalling I’ve seen during his tenure.

The team is playing sound across the board. Our offense kept them off balance and our defense slowed them down with some big plays mixed in.

Yeah, I was in a group chat with friends and was flabbergasted by this choice..... happy it worked in our favor. Minimal rest for their Defense resulted in a quick score for our offense..... made me happy!
True but knowing if you have to go for it on 4th is a huge advantage. That is less of an advantage when you get backed up to your side of the field however lol

The weeknight home games may not be the best for fans wanting to go to the games, but weeknight road games are incredible (especially as a student lol). Got to watch our Illini win tonight. Now I get to wake up tomorrow, make a good breakfast (thinking something unhealthy like chocolate chip pancakes and bacon), watch college football all day as a neutral, and then end the night with a party with friends. I get to do all that without the stress of the Illinois game that day since we already won.

You got a good team.

Penalties killed ya, and Raiola just needs a little more time.

Best of luck here on out.
For sure. It was exactly what I feared. A good game against a really really good coach who knows how to push buttons.

Good on you guys for capitalizing.

F it sucks to be a Nebraska fan the last couple decades hahaha!

Good luck to you guys and your awesome fans.

I will be cheering hard to beat the pedos

Honestly, I thought the contact on that play was fairly minimal. Now that's not to say flags haven't ever been thrown for that level of contact, but I think expecting a flag there is more wishful thinking or "boy it would be a nice break for us to get a flag here" than one you're going to get most of the time. If we want to talk blown calls, I think the defensive holding call on your guy was non-existent and we got a lucky break there. I also think we probably should have gotten DPI on another play that was a no call. I see the Huskers fans are angry about the 4th and 1 spot that went in Illinois' favor and I agree he looked short. That said, Nebraska also had an almost identical down and distance in the first half go in their favor where they looked short as well and got a favorable spot. On the other side there was a clear facemask on that 4th and 8 play for Illinois that should've been called. All of these plays would have an effect on the game, but there is one thing I'll say that you can bring home to the Husker boards if you want.

The Huskers shouldn't be blaming the refs for this loss, they should be blaming the really undisciplined play, both their o and d lines, and just the defense in general. They had 4 really clear and obvious facemasks or hands to the face- that stuff loses games right there. Both the o-line and d-line of Nebraska rightfully should have dominated us with the talent they have. Either the players didn't show up with the necessary effort or the coaches were terribly outschemed. It was a really tight and even game in my opinion and it would just come down to who could get the final stop. This time it wound up being Illinois.

Overall, Nebraska had some Frostian type issues rear the head today and that's why they lost. But thankfully he's not the coach for you anymore, so my guess is that after a very long week of film and practices, this game will only help you the rest of the season as Rhule will make sure what happened is known to be unacceptable. Losses never feel good but you're on the upswing, just lost a game to a team that played better on this night. Have a good one, and thanks for joining us in the pre and postgame threads
Oh for sure, the game was ultimately on us for not executing. Forgive my frustrations over what to me is a pretty obvious call.

But all good. In the end we didn't finish when we should.

As I've said the whole time, Brett is a great coach and he's going to put his team in a position to win which he did all damn night.

I'll root for you guys the rest of the way. Beat the pedos.

So after watching highlights, I think that McCray "Stick em" catch was easily one of the most important plays of the night. I mean wow we have the unreal interception in the endzone, the fridge moment, and the three sacks in overtime, but talk about putting us in a position to go for it, and then later score to tie late in the 3rd.
