Illinois 30, Central Michigan 9 Postgame

I don't think it's petty by BB.........I think he was making a point after last years fiasco and he should.......referee's sho0uld be called out for their mistakes.........

BB is pretty sharp when making his point , just like he did on the screen play that KU used and the ref's called the OPI because he pointed it out before the game started.....

Not a clean game at all, but hey, anytime you didn't play well and still win by 3 touchdowns against a D1 opponent is a good day. How many times over the past 20 years have we had down games against very beatable teams where we're on the wrong side of a 1 possession game with a few minutes to go? This was a good win not because we played well, but because we didn't and still won by 21.

Some points:
-Luke is incredibly accurate at throwing slants and deep balls, better than several NFL guys. We need to dial up faster routes and hot routes for him, and when the secondary starts creeping up, have him test them deep with Bryant and Franklin 1 on 1
-We have not had this dynamic a QB and WRs threesome since Kittner, Lloyd, and Young. This is a group that can beat good secondaries and in order to beat Nebraska next week we're going to need them to.
- Our run blocking on the interior of the o line has greatly struggled. As such, our only options really are to spread the field or have an RB who can quickly bounce it off-tackle. As such, the more I see Valentine, the more I think he's the RB who's the best fit for this offense. If we had the line we had when Chase Brown played, I'd like Feagin, but we don't so gotta adapt
- Defense... Not a good game from several players, but the Scotts were still active, Coleman had a great game, and Jacas showed up. That all said, we didn't give up a touchdown. Gotta be better next week against Raiola, but I tell you what, the way MIles and Xavier lurk, I like their chances to bait a freshman into a bad throw or two
-Special Teams had an A+++ game, from the FG kicking to the coverage, to the returns, to that onside kick recovery, that was a phenomenal performance. The type of performance that wins Iowa a good 4-5 games each season. Great job.

If we were to go into Lincoln and beat Nebraska to go to 4-0, which will be difficult at best, we've got a hell of a chance to do something special. GO ILLINI!!!

Torn…

30-9 is about what I expected the score to be.

But why did it feel so ugly along the way. 😬
We must have planned it to be that ugly. We did enough to win but didn't have to show the future opponents many successful plays or that they need to prepare against our lines. Now Nebby will think they've got this easy on Friday, and then we'll show 'em what we got!

There’s no way he’s that petty…

But I’m all for it if he is!
... you might want to look up why the Illini switched from using the locally owned bus company this year and are now chartering busses from a big Iowa based corporation.

Bert lets his fire rage over little things. It can be a valuable trait for a head coach — at least on occasion.

On the last note on special teams I saw the coach down there kind of quietly alerting the front line players before the kick. Great recognition to know that was coming and not tip it off to CMU that we knew.

Thought the most important development today was Ethan Moczulski's 59-yard field goal - with at least 5 yards to spare. This changes everything. Our offense is in position to score points once we cross midfield. Opposing defenses will have to game plan accordingly. It changes how we handle the last drive before the half. It changes the end of close games. Every time we start a drive at our 25-yard line, we only need to gain 30 yards to try a field goal, wind permitting.

We had three receivers with a 100% completion rate today: Hank, Ca'Lil and .... Luke. :p
It's not a good sign when your safety is your leading tackler.
On the other hand, no fumbles and no interceptions thrown.

Crowd was pretty full to start with even though nowhere near the energy of last game. Unfortunately it was HOT and the sun was brutal so by half time people were starting to wear out. Stadium was almost empty by the the 4th quarter.
it’s brutal weather

Free Luke!

Shore up the offensive line (G-C-G) asap. No interior run blocking room at all. It’s not existing. Our tackles are great.

We will need Brooks to get out of the dog house for next weekend. Huskers offense is lethal.

Students bailed. It’s time bag flip cards forever. Ye gods, how embarrassing. Block I isn’t what Block I was, in more than one way. Let it die.

Just watched reply of the record-breaking FG. Love that at the end that the returner who was back follows the ball til it’s landing and turns back with body language that seems say, “are you f’ing kidding me?”
He so wanted a kick-six
