yeah, feels like we might be better to pass to set up the run than visa versa. So happy they won, so much to improve on. Looking at you, Lunney and line play. We have real wide receivers, would be good to use them more often with less runs up the middle and some screen passes to keep the D guessing. But hey, a win is a win and it’s been way to long to linger on the negatives.
It felt like an eternityTwo weeks in a row we passed the eye test. Only time we didn’t this game was when the offense went way too conservative for a couple possessions until Kansas scored and the coaches had to open it up a bit.
I kinda hope not. I'd like us to be a bit hungrier going into Nebraska.Any way we get ranked after next week, going 3-0 after thumping Central Michigan?
You’d think with BB as head coach that’d be Illinois’ bread and butter. Good thing is often times some emphasis from the coaches can fix a lot of it in a week. I think they’re solid from an athletic standpoint. Correct me if I’m wrongMore concerned about run blocking. We did not run the ball effectively until Valentine.
ala Art Sitkowski fumble no fumble vs Iowa....That muffed punt that had me all *&^*&^*& but then it was a touchback and then... well all that happened.
You're not being "that guy" at all! There's a lot on both sides that are clearly going to be areas of concern all year long. I think that the goal was to keep Daniels contained in the pocket and for the most part, they did. They got loose a few times, but no truly explosive plays. Not to be that guy, but I felt they kinda gashed us on the runs. Was that due to our gameplan to contain Daniels, or is that a weakness future opponents will look at and know to exploit?
What a win!
Huge game for Bret and the program! Great sold out crowd and more excitement to come!
I L L...
they got 7 yds per carry all nightI don't think our run defense is anything to write home about, but Kansas probably has a top 5 rushing attack in the country with a top 3 running back
No. If we win next week, then go into Nebraska and win, then yes. For us, this went farther when it comes to recruiting than getting national attention. NIU is going to be getting some votes.Any way we get ranked after next week, going 3-0 after thumping Central Michigan?
Honestly I just think we should play to our strengths. We don't pass on first down nearly enough. You’d think with BB as head coach that’d be Illinois’ bread and butter. Good thing is often times some emphasis from the coaches can fix a lot of it in a week. I think they’re solid from an athletic standpoint. Correct me if I’m wrong
YES! Totally blew up the play! Also I love that defensive blitz call on the Hail Mary!
This isn’t basketball!!!Meltdown on the KU boards.
I could be wrong but I wouldn’t think we’d get any consideration for a ranking unless we start 4-0, beating an undefeated Nebraska at their place.Big changes coming. Who had it on Bingo card this morning that both NIU and Illini will be getting serious votes/possibly ranked come Monday?
Fun fact I was part of a goal post tear down
Same. A win over a top 20 team who smoked us last year has me very confused about the direction of the program.Great win. Lunney is not a P2 coordinator. We have more talent on both sides of the ball than we’ve had in the past. A Henry defense seems to be good at developing players but bad at play calling.
I don’t think I’ve ever been more confused about the seasons prospects after a win than I am now.
Rositech got torched for the muff and rightly so, but noone has said he made a hell of an effort and play to recover it
well, it won't move the needle. But other needles move backwards.Agree with this. Central Michigan won't move the needle.
My perspective on the muffed punt is more on the coaches calling a super conservative game. If that’s the game plan than to win you must be better than the other teams at the fundamentals and we aren’t.Also the two punts from that KU punter were spinning sideways. It was absolutely insane and almost uncatchable both times.
