Ahem , my brothers and sisters , we have a very talented squad for 2024-25..............We really really really really do........

This SHOULD erase the taste of the bad exhibition game completely from the Illini Nation palate....at least it did it for me......

Will Riley with a new Illini debut scoring record of 31 points...........great game with a silky smooth shot..............
DGL with a career high 21 points.................bulldog mentality and I applaud him for staying the course with the Illini.......
Tomi with a double double.................
KJ with an all around great game as the floor general and such a sweet pass to DGL for a layup...............
Rez ties a freshman blocked shots with 6 and 8 rebounds.............
Hum with , I think 15 pts and a lot better defensive game.....................
Booth with a couple 3 's............
KB had a somewhat rough game with some turnover's but did hit a smooth 3 and played solid D..............
Trey White has a sweet FT shot and played well................

I really liked the substitution pattern that the coaching staff used tonight.......Showed the skill level of our team and multiple players played well together no matter who was in.........................Too many turnovers in the first half but took much better care of the ball in the second half...................

I now can understand Ty's decision to redshirt , no matter where he plays next year.......I think he will be a different case than S. Harris but who knows nowadays........

the post game radio interview with BU turned into a coughing bout with coach and Brian Barnhart both struggling to talk.........

I now feel the excitement of a new season with a new team and look forward to the next game Friday night to continue the quest for another successful year of FIGHTING ILLINI MBB.....................I REALLY REALLY DO.....................

All Riley had to do was show flashes of being an elite scorer at this level and he did it in his very first collegiate game as a legal child. He gone.

Riley might be a one and done. However, he definitely needs two seasons in the program. If he plays for the Illini next season, he will get paid big $ and play major minutes against elite competition. He needs to get better physically and learn to defend quicker players. Sitting on the bench in the NBA is not fun to do for a young player...just ask TSJr. The $ benefits for Riley will likely be long term better to play 2 in C-U, not to mention skill development in becoming an all-around contributor at NBA level. Plus, we need to see how he handles a 40 game season (lets hope) and go from there. If he can play consistently elite against elite competition, then go. JMHO. But hate to see him sit on a bench for a couple of years and vanish because he was impatient. We will see.
I’m going to disagree here. In terms of draft value, it’s crucial to strike while the iron is hot. He’s not going to play like he did tonight every game, but if he shows out at times throughout the year he may be a projected lottery pick considering his physical gifts & age. *If* that comes to fruition, it’s a no brainer, even if he doesn’t get much tick early in his NBA career. Now, if he’s inconsistent and just shows flashes and is a maybe possibly probably 1st rounder, then coming back makes sense.

Forgot about the Ole Miss game already?
Not at all. But I will say this. Had that game been played in SFC, Ole Miss would certainly not have made 52 out of 54 from the arc and the Illini would have thrown a few more in the string rather than row 4 of Section B. Maybe even led all the way had they shot the ball like tonight. We will never know, but it was a wonderful learning experience for these kids to see a good, experienced team with no cost on the old W-L ledger.

That said, I am wondering what in the world is going on with KB, a favorite of mine (U of A alum here but elite Illini hoops fan) and a guy from which I expected so much more than we have seen. Hope he keeps his head up, focused, and keeps rowing towards getting comfortable and playing to his potential We will need him to be him.

It is very obvious that DGL put in work this offseason. The kid looks huge compared to last year, especially in his shoulders. Somewhat of a niche observation but his rear delts are MASSIVE which shows insane dedication and focus because they are a very difficult muscle to isolate and work properly. It's almost like we have the best S&C program in the country...

I missed the game because I was watching my granddaughter’s 8th grade team notch a win. (Sorry had to brag!) But am I reading the box score right? Our two leading scorers didn’t even start and the leading scorer is 17 years old? That can’t be right. Can it?

I'm more impressed with his 4-8 from 3-pt range, 7 of 8 from the FT line and 0 turnovers.
