Didn't mention this in the past game notes but Jojo Hayden's PFF scores are solid in limited action. In some ways it's wild that Illinois is producing a lot of interesting edge pieces but could use an extra interior d-line piece (or two).

Hayden laid the wood on at least one tackle that really stood out to me against CMU. Great to see.

Our LBs tend to be the mobile type - who is our run stuffer in the current 3 deep?

Not sure if this has been pointed out the last couple weeks, but with the 3-0 start Bielema is now 21-19 as Illinois head coach. He's the first Illinois head coach to be over .500 through 40 games since Lou Tepper.
And this really highlights how bad of records the Zook teams had before the Rose Bowl stint. While we went 9-4 in the Rose Bowl year and had a combined 14-11 record from 2007-2008 … we were 4-19 in his first two seasons before that, lol.

Not sure where to put this, but just saw that Tennessee is adding a 10% ‘Talent Tax’ onto every ticket to cover NIL. I’m sure they won’t be the last.

What’s next, NCAA salary caps?

Did a quick dive of players Illinois lost to the portal this offseason and whether they've played well, played poorly, or barely/not played, or didn't land anywhere:

Played Well
Tobe
Mc-Cantos
Badie (hasn't played a lot)
Barlev
Love

Played Poorly
Anthony Johnson
McConnell (trending closer towards average than poor)
Nicholson
Miller

Barely/Not Played
Dennis
Moore (surprising)
Smith (3 snaps)
Ford
Leys
Pugh
Okla
Anderson
Davis

Didn't Land Anywhere(?)
Jenkins

I don't see it --at least not a workable version. The idea of a one-size-fits all seems like an obviously bad idea. tOSU or TX having the same limits as Vanderbilt or Kent State won't be workable --big schools will find ways around anything the NCAA tries to impose. I don't even think it can be done within conferences. Schools can spend what they want as long as they believe it's net positive.

Regarding Salary Caps…and correct me if i’m wrong….

I believe there will be capped spending amounts per each university’s Athletic Department as a whole (not on a sport by sport bases).

The university will be able to chose where and how they divide the spending up (i.e. split spending 45% basketball, 45% football, 10% other sports for well balanced approach………….perhaps 60% basketball, 30% football, 10% other sports for Duke; etc.)

This is where the talk of cutting sports comes in. Hypothetically, if the spending Cap is $30 mil per Athletic Department, would the university chose to have a $2 million basketball player like TSJ over an entire program (such as Wrestling)? Tough Decisions, but the $2 million basketball player no doubt brings more ticket sales, national attention, and relevance in the B1G than an entire wrestling program combined.
