Whether you agreed with him or not, a basketball pep rally in the middle of Illinois is decidedly not the appropriate venue.Piven went out with a scarf and kind of preppy and then started on politics. Bashed President Bush, people didn't want to hear it.
I didn't realize how much access scouting types had to individual team practices (I guess there was less interest in Tisdale and Frazier and Meacham and the like...) but everyone who sees it is going gaga for KJ.
As someone who didn’t follow recruiting during the Eric Gordon saga (e.g. no PTSD), this read is pretty dang hilarious. Love the continued roasting of Jeremy Piven throughoutI mentally blocked out Midnight Madness with Piven was the same day that IDKWTI committed to Indiana.

Here's a liveblog of the events, if you're a glutton for punishment like me and want to relive the horror. Come for Piven getting booed. Stay for McBride's suspension and Carlwell no-pointing in the dunk contest. The signs were all there we were in for an extended rough patch. Yeesh.

On that note, thanks for reading. Check out Saturday's News-Gazette for comprehensive coverage of the Gordon situation, where the Illini look next, a feature on Carlwell, notes from media day,www.news-gazette.com

I was at the “John Groce in a military uniform outside of Altgeld” (lol) version of midnight madness circa 2013 and it was alright, but my strongest memory was not being able to see anything because it was mostly standing room only. Needless to say, U of I doesn’t have a great record for this stuffI was there. It was just bizarre.
I don't want to be anti-fun, but I never really saw the appeal of Midnight Madness.
Awkwardly stuck halfway between a student-focused non-basketball pep rally better held at, like, Foellinger and a proper ticketed scrimmage for the fanbase at large at SFC.
One year they held the event in the south endzone at the conclusion of the football game. I only remember that it was a beastly hot afternoon, and it took them a L O N G time to get the game started. The crowd dropped off to nearly zilch before the tip.I was at the “John Groce in a military uniform outside of Altgeld” (lol) version of midnight madness circa 2013 and it was alright, but my strongest memory was not being able to see anything because it was mostly standing room only. Believe Tre White got there early and has been working his tail off. He didn't come in to sit, lose or transfer again. He sees the competition and coaches demands and is rising to those levels. Seems to be the surprise on the team.
Purdue UConnI agree.
Last year when Edey was off, the rest of the team seldom had answers, in the few games I watched.
PU built their team and system around Edey.
Thanks for reposting this. Think about how much more talent we have on this roster compared to what Weber was trotting out.I mentally blocked out Midnight Madness with Piven was the same day that IDKWTI committed to Indiana.

I could live with that! LOLYou could imagine it being the other way around, where KJ is the instant impact freshman a la Dee whereas Riley is less able to contribute immediately but winds up having the brighter longer term and pro future ala Deron.
Give our social media people a raise. They're killing it.
Too bad he doesn't have a vote in the AP poll
Sure, but I think creating a program with no real hope for a decade+ impacted our ability to hold an excitement based event.Whether you agreed with him or not, a basketball pep rally in the middle of Illinois is decidedly not the appropriate venue.
I Love You Brad Underwood. Man am I glad he’s our guy.
Man, that was really tremendous!
Man, I love the insight into him as a coach..not just in a game, but in the meetings and practices. Freaking awesome.

I think people will be very high on him once they see how many silky smooth shots he drills in the tune up games. He is the older guy that isn’t as shiny as these highly touted young guys but I’m very excited to see that reliable of a scorer in the O&B.Kevin Sweeney

Blown away by Ben Humrichous. The shooting plays anywhere, but he’s in phenomenal shape and really moves well. Has an NBA future, IMO. Will be interesting to see him potentially as a small-ball 5 in certain matchups this year.
Surprised this comment by Sweeney on Humrichous didn't stir any discussion... especially in light of the shade thrown his way (Humrichous) by the Sleepers Media boys.
