The guy who just put up more points than all of em averaged 4.4 his freshman year. People seriously need to pump the brakes.

I don't know why we would pump the brakes , when Mark Smith gets ball I don't think he will. Think he will be able to make DBL digits, in his sleep. Plus 2 others, but they will keep there eyes open. ;):illinois:

I truly hope you're spot on! I love me some Mark Smith as much as anyone. He's a bad man & the most important pick up we've had in recent memory. He will be a stud, no doubt. I'll just reiterate even the finest of freshman won't always be world beaters out of the gates. Skal Labissiere put up 6.6 in the SEC and was supposed to be the #1 overall pick once upon a time.

What was the average points per game during the BW era and the JFG era versus the past 4 years of BU ?

That is why we shouldn't be pumping the breaks on how much a freshman will score per game this year in the BU offensive system :shield:

Totally apples to oranges comparison considering BU and those others were playing in completely different conferences against (in BU's case while at SFU) very different levels of competition. That's not even taking into account the fact that you are talking different sets of years playing under different rules.

Absoutly. Just curious on the numbers.. who wants to help kick start that pov?

I watched John Groce's team play Michigan last year and i watched Underwood's team play Michigan eight days later, and when i was watching Underwood i was sad that he wasn't going to be a part of the coaching carousel. ;)

OSU 91 @ Mich 92

Mich 69 @ Ill 85

Ill 57 @ Mich 66

Ill 55 @ Mich 75

OSU's game was faster (that site doesn't list a Possessions stat which i thought was KenPom's standard before the premium curtain was drawn, but they have a Pace stat in the four factors at the top) than our fastest Michigan game. And yet the possessions were artificially LOW because the teams combined for only 14 turnovers, but 183 points. In a game where OSU only turned Michigan over 4 times, where Michigan hit 16 of 29 threes, and where Jawun Evans shot 10 of 26 from the floor, OSU still scored 91 and lost by just 1.

Illinois dominated Michigan in a fairly slow game at home by not missing, but in the two games where we did miss, the pace was a quicker, in part because we also turned the ball over on 20+% of our possessions.

These are the things I was talking about. I don't have time to do the research, however, this is why I stated we will be 12-6 in conference. A lot of loses, we just couldn't score. That's been our problem for 5-6 years now, a nonoffensive system that requires us to shoot nearly perfect and for a superstar to emerge. I did watch some footage of BU offensive systems at his past stops and the offensive is ran so beautifully. It took me about 10 seconds to know exactly how he offense would flow and what would happen but every team I watched couldn't stop it. They knew what was coming and couldn't stop it. That is the biggest difference, with JFG we all knew what was going to happen and everyone would stop us. With a BU offense, every knew what was coming but they couldn't be stopped.

And Kiwane Garris averaged 15.9 pts as a freshman.

I need to go find and watch some Kiwane highlights. I loved him when he was playing for us.

I guess I'll settle for Illinois @ Duke in 1995. Gee, Gandy, Hester, Garris, Turner, Notree, Keane, Blackwell... I somehow forgot all those guys played together. So many good guys and good stories there!

And Deron Williams 6.3 PPG as a freshman.:)

Are we judging this contest on which "pee-pee" is longer or who can actually pee the farthest?

:thumb:

Either way, there's a good chance that we will be ok in the future. :chief:

Great news on Mattic, was thinking he would stay in Europe. He looks like Kiki Vanderweh, hopefully with similiar game. He and Emogi should get minutes at the 4 and 5 spot.

Ok seriously, it's almost September. Why isn't Alstork on campus or telling us when he will be?

Because he doesn't have to be? He's been in summer school, let the kid have a week or two with his family. I can tell you his snapchat is filed with him throwing up hundreds of shots every single day. He's preparing just as hard as the rest of the team.

I'm aware, he's putting in work. I thought the only reason he wasn't here was because he's waiting to be accepted to grad school due to transcripts? That's my concern

Big Ten programs are preparing for a 20-game league schedule in 2018-2019 season

Good. I hope not to be the type of program under BU that needs every last cupcake victory to scrape its way into the play-in game of the NCAAs, so that's not a concern of mine. As a fan (especially one living in another Big Ten town), I want us playing teams like Indiana, Iowa and Wisconsin twice per year more often than not.

I believe this is going to be the new standard. The ACC just approved or is going to approve a 20 game conference schedule. This means teams have the opportunity for more wins and more wins generally mean more NCAA bids.
