Thanks. I appreciate that insight. Not something I've thought much about over the past, well, 40 years, but when I have thought about it I was puzzled. Makes sense.Rose left Purdue after his second season to initiate a program at South Florida. It remains a bit of a mystery why it didn’t work out at Purdue. He says it just wasn’t a good fit. Clearly, his relationship with athletic director George King wasn’t good. He also was frustrated by recruiting against Bob Knight and Digger Phelps in Indiana. He wasn’t able to get Indiana’s 1980 Mr. Basketball, Jim Master, to even visit West Lafayette despite an all-out recruiting push, and lost another player to Evansville. And, he simply wasn’t all that popular or comfortable within the athletic department.
Chris Beard to Texas
UNC: Bill, we'd like to discuss our HC opening with you
With no chance of parole?
Self has been studying the Putin playbook. In power forever! The Kansas athletic department is in total shambles. How do you let that happen?
Hopefully he negotiated a raise when Johnson County Community College gets the hammer.Self got it in writing with his new lifetime contract that he can’t be fired for the NCAA investigation. Wow.
Could this be construed as an ""admission of guilt ""..?????Self got it in writing with his new lifetime contract that he can’t be fired for the NCAA investigation. Wow.
Well, at least it seems to indicate that the KU administration doesn't care if he's guilty,Could this be construed as an ""admission of guilt ""..?????
Does he get that job without the Illinois win this year? Crazy.Moser to OK it looks like.
Doubtful. The win against the Illini made him an instant hot commodity.Does he get that job without the Illinois win this year? Crazy.
Benedict Bartow. Hired with fanfare to dig us out after Harv Schmidt’s demise, then skips town after one 8-18 year for UCLA. Hated here for years. You'd probably have to go back to Gene Bartow. We thankfully have not had many "failed" coaches in the last 45 years.
Mark Few is not leaving Spokane. He walks on water around the Northwest. He is far too much a local to want to leave.I would be surprised Mark Few would consider the North Carolina opening. He's turned down too many other chances to "move up" from Spokane to do it at this point. Oh, if he wins the national championship at Gonzaga this year, maybe there's a chance he might consider another school. But being a native of Oregon, it's doubtful, IMO, that he would want to move to Carolina.
Well in his defense, he did leave to follow Wooden at UCLA. That’s quite a gig. And he did move the Illini from 10th to 9th in conference. But most of all, his leaving cleared the way for Lou. But, yeah, considering how I feel about Self, I’m sure many people didn’t like Bartow after that.Benedict Bartow.
