Chicago Cubs 2024

Was there really a point in cutting Gomes if you replace him with Nido? He’s terrible.
I agree. at least gomes has veteran experience and is good in the clubhouse. he was very clutch hitting last year but this year the catching position in general has been brutal

I've never seen a team that takes more center cut strikes than this one. And a big percentage of them are on strike 3. Strike 1 and 2 shows a lack of aggression. Strike 3 shows that they are all just guessing.

I don't mind taking strike 1 but certainly, taking strike 3 right down the middle isn't acceptable.

23 games left to the trade deadline. 5 games out of the playoffs. Probably have to go 15-8 at minimum to justify making any acquisitions towards winning this year.

What an unmitigated disaster this season’s been.

Meh... Managers are easy scapegoats. Which guy on the bench should be getting more at bats? Which guy in the bullpen should be getting the call in high leverage situations? There are no good answers on this roster right now.
This group of guys folded down the stretch last year in the exact same way they are folding right now.

So who's at fault? The players, the GM(s), the Owners or injuries?......or Manager ?
My thoughts: all of the above in this order 1) GM, 2) Players, 3) Owner 4) Injuries 5) Manager

This Phillies team the Cubs are playing right now has several top-flight free agent signings in Realmuto, Wheeler, Turner, and Harper, and yet have a payroll only about 8% higher than the Cubs’ payroll.

That seems like a front office problem to me.

I wish that they would win another game so Ian would post.
Haha! I'm still around lurking.

Quick anecdote: I'm on the younger side of Cub fandom (34) and when I was in my early 20s I created some emotional distance from my sports fandom(s). I didn't like how my mood felt context dependent on the outcome to my favorite teams winning or losing. Seeing the Cubs win the World Series in 2016 was plenty enough for me. Anything else until I'm gone is just an added bonus.
