Yes, see post #252 in here. I have also seen it and enjoyed it. Thought the book was very good (it was the guy's first novel) and of course content development is better in book, but the pictures in movie really work. Good entertainment.

Thanks guys, I have been wanting to see it and now based on your recommendations I am going to. You confirmed my thoughts.

Yes. Great. Like "FeelYourPaign", I also read the book. The movie is a very good adaptation.

Along with "Mad Max," "Dope" and "Inside Out," The Martian may have been the best money I've spent at the theater this year.

Edit: "Ex Machina" too! It's been a fine year for cinema.

I saw The Martian as well last night, it was much better than I thought it was going to be.

What are the some movies anyone is looking forward to seeing?

Also thanks for the reviews of The Martian!

November 20:
-The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 (Not a huge fan of this series, but Philip Seymour Hoffman was my favorite actor. Last chance to see him on screen in a new release.)
-Legend (Tom Hardy & Tom Hardy. Oh yes. Dec 11 wide release.)
-Carol (Huge Rooney Mara fan.)

December 18:
-Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (Come on, who isn't excited?)

December 25:
-The Hateful Eight (Tarantino is one of, if not my favorite director [Wes Anderson is the likely close second.] Very excited for both Kurt Russell and Walton Goggins in this one).
-Joy (David O. Russell pairing with Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper again. No reason not to be excited.)
-The Revenant (Inarritu is following up last year's incredible Birdman with my anticipated film of 2015. Will Leo finally get his Oscar?).

2015 reminds me a lot of 2012 in terms of my excitement for Oscar season.

The Revenant - Innaritu is the guy that directed Birdman, and the trailers for this look amazing.
Star Wars - No explanation needed I hope
The Hateful Eight - the first Tarantino film since Pulp Fiction that I've really, really wanted to see. Great cast and the trailer (at least) seems like QT has toned down his QT-ness
Joy - David O. Russel with his usual cast of Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, and Robert DeNiro
Point Break - At first I had no desire to see another remake of a film that I thought was about as good as I could get. Then I saw the trailer. Must see, hopefully in IMAX and hopefully with a very loud sound system
The Big Short - Solid cast, great topic, and I'm interested to see Adam McKay's transition to drama from big Will Ferrell comedies
Trumbo - Not getting the best reviews, but a great cast and a story everyone who loves film and filmmaking, or who cares about justice and fairness, should know.
Legend - Find the trailer and not be amazed at Tom Hardy
Hitchcock/Truffaut - I don't go out to documentaries much (usually get them off streaming sites) but this one should be phenomenal. The Truffaut book of Hitchcock interviews was the textbook for a film class I took at UIUC, and the doc is essentially the backstory of all that.

Edit--I forgot about Secret in their Eyes, which looks a bit derivative but has a great cast.
Carol--I'll second Ian on this, and Todd Haynes makes great films about troubled relationships

While stumbling around IMDB, I found Room. Sounds interesting.

Did anyone see the foreign version of Secret in Their Eyes? Excellent movie. I think as Hollywood does they have changed the plot a little bit.

I believe Spotlight looks good as well.

The Hateful Eight is going to be a limited release on Christmas only on screens with the ability to show the 70MM format. Looks like I'll have some options to see this version. The full digital release won't be until January 8th.

Seeing Kurt Russell in the trailer of The Hateful Eight reminds me, did anyone see Bone Tomahawk?

Saw Spectre last night. I might be alone on this but I thought it was the best of the four Craig offerings to this point. I know there are some segments in the movie that many might think went kind of slow but the movie kept my interest for the entire time. I agree that Waltz could have been used more extensively but it didn't tarnish the movie for me. Sam Smith's singing wasn't as annoying with the opening credit visuals to go with it. Side note: they didn't ask Bautista to show much of his acting repertoire did they? :)

The original Zoolander is my least favorite movie of all time. Keeping this negative bias in mind, the sequel looks to be even worse.

The Hunger Games series really limped to its conclusion. Financially I understand why they split the final chapter into two films, but doing so really weakened the quality of each.

2.5/4.

Creed stayed true to what made the classic Rocky series great. Plenty of story arcs tied together to bring about a wide range of emotions. Director Ryan Coogler paired with Michael B. Jordan for the second time (Fruitvale Station) and are slowly forming a dynamite 1-2 punch (who doesn't love a good pun?).

3.5/4.

I saw The Night Before on Turkey Day. I laughed my !!! off the whole movie. It's not one of the great comedies, but it's worth seeing. Seth Rogen's character was the best by far.

Went and saw Spotlight tonight. This movie is about the Boston Globe reporters who helped break the story about the Catholic priests sex abuse scandal back in the early 2000s. I highly recommend anyone who is even thinking of going to see it to do so. Everything about this movie is done perfectly from the writing to the directing to the acting. Among the stars you have in the film include Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, John Slattery, Stanley Tucci, and Liev Schreiber. This is easily the best movie I've seen this year and it's not even close. Oscar nominations are pretty much a given with this film. It's that good.

Thanks for the review. We plan on seeing it. Have heard nothing but good things about it.

Just got out of Spotlight, too.

What an incredibly powerful film. It reminded me of David Fincher's "Zodiac" with a different type of thrill. Mark Ruffalo deserves a Best Supporting Actor nomination, if not a win.

As of right now, it's probably the best film I've seen this year (I'll have to look back at my ticket stubs to confirm). Late December has some great releases in store, so I won't go ahead and call it a lock for Best Picture, but The Revenant, Joy, and The Hateful Eight (among a few others) have their work cut out for them.

Really want to see Spotlight.

Has anyone seen Secret in Their Eyes, I saw the foreign made version and it was excellent even reading the subtitles.

I am also curious about Jerusalem, if anyone knows about it.

Force Awakens was awesome. Pretty sure I had a smile on my face 95% of the movie.
