2024-25 College Football Coaching Carousel

Starting the thread with a firing that occurred this morning.

East Carolina has fired Mike Houston, following yesterday's loss to Army. The Pirates were 27-38 in Houston's 5+ seasons in charge and were 3-4 this season. While they did make it to bowl games in 2021 and 2022, they have been just 5-14 since. Houston was never quite able to replicate the success he had at James Madison, prior to taking the East Carolina job in 2019.

Won't be the last time the replication of success at James Madison is a relevant topic of this thread, I suspect.

This year, no. 4 or 5 years into Cignetti's tenure, it may be a different story.
Well leave aside that the WAY Cignetti has succeeded (taking a huge chunk of his old team with him) will be the talk of the carousel, I think you're using a decade-old mentality if you don't think he will be aggressively courted by any major jobs that come open.

We'll see how it goes, not sure how many prime opportunities (pun intended?) there will be.

Next firing - Napier, Riley, Norvell, Riley, Weathers (in that order).

My money is on Kalen DeBoer getting fired at the end of the year and Bama rushing to hire Cignetti. It’s one thing to lose to Tennessee, but you cannot lose to Vanderbilt.

Mid season hires are kinda dumb in CFB if I'm being honest. Really hard to keep your recruiting class together if they have to sit in limbo for months not knowing if the recruiters they've been talking to will even be there.

All the more reason to be grateful for the incomparable Pat Bryant, who stuck with us.

purdue is way worse in year 2 and might finish 1-11. Sticking with Walter’s another year could really set the program back
Let’s hope they’re that foolish. (But he’s prolly done like dinner. )

That would be awesome / huge. If that were to happen, would Indiana just hire DeBoer then?
