2015-16 Blackhawks

I was at the game last night. It was quite the hostile crowd when the goal was disallowed because Anderson intentionally dislodged the net. Good thing it didn't cost us in the end.

As I watched last tonight, I thought I remember a rule where the ref does not have to automatically blow the play dead in this situation. In other words, if the goalie dislodges the net, on purpose or accidentally, the ref can decide if it affected the play. In this case, it would have been a goal regardless.

Perhaps I was wrong, or they changed the rule? That goal should have been allowe IMO because the goalie knocked it off. Probably not on purpose, but now it seems like you are opening Pandora's box. Will we see goalie she a little more assertive with their push offs? Will they bump the goal a little more aggressively when moving from post to post during a wild scramble?

Need to be addressed IMO as that was bogus by the Ducks goalie.

It's pretty difficult to knock the net off from the angle that the Ducks goalie did.

The moorings are set up with the idea that the goalie can push off from the very bottoms of either post side-to-side, but the same sort of pressure applied higher up on the frame or straight on toward one of the goalposts will knock the net off.

It does seem crazy that a play like that wouldn't count as a goal, but to play devils advocate, if the net stays solid, the goalie gets a much stronger push off of the post and is able to be in better position to save Panarin's shot.

There is a rule that you described but I believe the intention of that rule is for more of a bang-bang play. There was a good second before the puck crossed the line after the net had been dislodged. Sucky call, but right one in this situation (in my opinion).

Captain Serious needs a name change to Johnny Overtime. Two games in a row with the OTGWG.

Yeah, it was the right call (given the rules). But the league should give the referee a bit of discretion in these situations. Toronto would have the final call.

At the risk of being labelled Captain Obvious, that should have been a good goal.

If not a goal, at least it should have been a delay of game penalty on the goalie. Incidentally, he was called for one in the 2nd period for playing the puck outside the restricted area.

Now that the Cubs are done for the year I am getting a chance to start watching more Blackhawks games. Wow, what a difference Anisimov is making already. The combo of him and Kane with either Tuevo or Panarin is just deadly. That passing last night was sick against the Kings. With a healthy Duncs and Hossa and the emergence of Svedberg as a real option on defense this team could go far, even without Bickell.

eh? He's been passable, but hardly emerging. He's been out of position too much.

Never claimed he was emerging as a top 4 d-man. He is usually around 20 minutes TOI and currently has a -1 plus/minus. I trust him much more than Rundblad. Besides, being out of position every once in a while has not hurt Seabs career. What was needed when Duncs went down was a steady defensive presence to step up and provide some relief for the TOI void left behind when a top d-man like Duncs goes down. Svedberg has provided that admirably.

I think it helps to remember Svedberg and about half of this roster are really young. There will be plenty more games filled with guys out of position and shaky play in general. I think the promising thing is that you can see the flashes of skill on the ice. There are multiple guys that will be big contributors to this team in the near future. Getting Duncan back this weekend would be huge.

I'm really excited to see the development of Kero, Dano, Svedberg, and Panarin.

Cometh, but yeah.

The young guys have made this season pretty interesting. Q has to play them. But there's a wide gulf between Panarin, TT and hopefully Dano and Gus and Svedberg. Very small sample size, but Gus looks pretty good. Svedberg's back to Rockford when Keith comes back IMO.

Will be interesting to see if Kero sticks. He's been better than Hino, Hartman and Baun. Gonna be tough when Hossa comes back. Kero or Dano.

Clearly Panarin and TT are on another level but in time I think the other kids will stick. The Blackhawks talent evaluation has been fantastic for the last 7-8 years. Tough decisions though they may be, these are good problems to have.

Now if we could just get Shaw/Kruger/Desjardin going!

Question for anyone who knows. After an icing call, Anaheim stalled by having their face off guy get booted. Good strategy if it works, but what is the exact protocol for booting guys? Could a linesman just ignore what he is doing and keep him in the face off?

After 26 games, the Hawks have 30 points and are tied with Nashville for the two wild card spots. This isn't surprising since they had to make some major changes on the roster this season. I predicted before the season started that I would not be surprised if the Hawks did not make the playoffs or struggled to make them due to the competitiveness of the central division and western conference. A few of the players like Hossa and Tuevo have been disappointments so far. My next comment will probably get me yelled at by some. The Hawks made Kane and Toews the highest paid players in the league at $10.5 mil. a piece. Kane is playing like it, leading the league in points and assists. So far Toews only has 8 goals and 7 helpers. I realize that Kane gets to play on a more dynamic line. But imo even though Toews plays good "D" and is good at the dot, he needs to score 35-40 goals to justify his salary. Discuss please.

JT's offensive output is disappointing, but hardly shocking, given his linemates for much of this season, Plus, he's notoriously a slow starter offensively. Hossa slowing down offensively doesn't help. But, as you noted, there's a lot more to hockey than O. And that's where JT shines. No better Captain than Toews. I think the Hawks will make the playoffs and JT will be fine.

Nice hit by Bickell on Big Buff. Not sure what the announcers are seeing - the contact is clearly to the chest and not the head.
