Watkins ... Wells ... Kelly ...

If it's not one of those three ... I'll be pretty surprised ...

Some have asked about Arthur Kaluma ... Character issues from Creighton were blamed on others ... They continued at K State ... Brad got this info and confirmed it through sources ... And he decided to pass ... (Good decision IMO) ...

Same goes for Wooga Poplar ... MAJOR pass ... We are not even interested at all anymore ...

Dark horse ... Kasparas Jakucionis ... His name was brought up to me today during the combine as a guy who we apparently sit pretty well with ...

Watkins would be a big tier drop down from Wells or Kelly. I hope we don't end up with him needed to be the playmaker.

He makes total sense. And with what we've paid the portal guys coming in (as well as Morez), it really wouldn't make sense to give Coleman a lot of money to come back. Our front court is loaded. All our NIL money at this point should go for a quality SG.

*again I'm aware that supposedly a donor would pay for Coleman regardless of the other NIL. That donor, if he/she exists and if he/she wants us to win, should open up those funds for an impact SG.

Kind of, but the difference is he wouldn't give a crap about disrupting some other school as a mercenary. Putting his alma mater and coaching staff in the spin cycle is a different story.
To me, it has been intimated here Coleman was upset about his NIL deal relative to others this past year. His persistent narrative of wanting to move on and not taking away someone else’s spot, and Brad targeting players in the portal that appear to be replacements at his position, leads me to think a conversation was held early on in the process that he had no intention of being here next year.
If this is the case, I respect the way he has continued be positive in interviews regarding the program and fan support. It shows me he has matured and recognizes the futility in airing out dirty laundry just to get the last word. I’m not convinced he would have reacted this way early on in his time here. If not, he still seems intent on moving on while publicly continuing to bleed orange and blue. Either way…much respect for his handling of the situation so far.

Ok, So Coleman seems to be out.
Good news is that a new prospect was seen touring Ubben....
Said his name was Holeman Cawkins. Looks like he might have game.

NBA, yes. If he goes to anyone on my list of hated schools or coaches, I hope he fails quite frankly.

Wells or Kelly are better "playmakers" than Watkins? It seems that Watkins averaged more assists per game than Wells or Kelly last season. Also, Kelly had more turnovers than assists. Both Watkins and Wells had more assists than turnovers. Watkins averaged more points and more rebounds than both Wells and Kelly. All with Watkins averaging less minutes per game last season than either Wells or Kelly. Not sure why you think that Watkins would be "a big tier down from Wells or Kelly."

I completely agree. I don't understand how anybody that looks at this objectively without the orange and blue glasses thinks any differently
Looking at it objectively, Brad believes he will be competing at the top with the players he hand picked and he has demonstrated this to be the case, consistently.

He has built a mix-and-match roster that fits his idea of what he wants to do.

We clearly have size, shooting, positional mismatches. judging the individual parts you might think differently than judging the whole/system.

We can be very dynamic.

Defense will be the question mark.

I thought he was a sure no after what happened that day but yesterday's thread was a little more optimistic about him.

Where is Egor at the current moment? Is it like a "done deal no"?...Or is it something like: still a possibility, still door open but we aren't working as hard on him as we once were and have moved on from him being our primary target?

Just want to have a correct idea of our targets, who we're looking at, and, most importantly, who we have a realistic shot to still land at the current moment.

I think Watkins would be the perfect add. Perfect fit. I think this team's potential is sky high with him in the fold.

But cmon..."TSJ replacement?"

He might be that good. Door open for that, I get it. But immediately labeling him as that is kinda an unfair assessment imo.

If Watkins does pull out, how would you like our chances with him?
I’m not an insider, but from everything that I’ve been reading and hearing, it’s an absolute bag. I love our chances, and the pitch that he’s the missing link to take this team to the promise land

I really hope that the Illini can add FSU SF Jamir Watkins via the transfer portal. He's probably as good of an alpha wing scorer that the Illini could add at this point. I feel like Watkins could up his scoring average and improve his overall game playing for Illinois next season.

But I've also been mentioning 6'8" San Diego freshman guard/forward Kevin Patton Jr. as another possible transfer to Illinois. Patton averaged 9.8/4.4/2.4 in 26.0 mpg last season. He shot 43.3% from the field, with 33.8% on 3s, and 71.8% from the line. [Not great numbers, but he's only a freshman, he has lots of talent, and he's steadily improving.] Patton also had more assists (77) than turnovers (71) in 23-24. I read somewhere (at some point in time) that Patton was ranked number 429 overall in 247 Sports transfer rankings. Yet in a Duke Basketball article 3 days ago, it was stated that Duke is being "linked to San Diego transfer Kevin Patton." That article also stated that UVA, Florida State, Cal, and Boston College are interested in/recruiting Patton. It just seems like Illinois might want to consider recruiting this kid. He has 3 years of eligibility left! And he could provide good minutes this coming season at both SG and SF. If Duke potentially has room for Patton (as a 12th scholarship player?), I don't know why Illinois couldn't find a spot for him on the Illini roster.

And no... I'm not related to Kevin Patton! :giggle:
