Week 6 Polls - Illinois #24 in AP Poll
I think #24 or #25. Indiana jumps us even though they haven’t played a ranked team yet.

I agree that Kentucky should not be top 25 at this point with two losses (fringe at best), but Arizona is a good team that dominated a top 10 Utah all night long. Arizona was ranked earlier this year, and they definitely deserve to be ranked after last night.
Didn’t ole miss just lose to a 2-2 unranked Kentucky… at home?! And the one guy only drops them from 6 to 10?!
Literally the only tough (relatively) opponent they’ve faced all year… and they lost… again, at home.
The same people will vote Illinois out of the top 25 after they’ve beaten two top 25 teams (one on the road), and only lost to the #9 team by 2 TDs, after being tied at half, on the road!
God damn, don’t tell me there ain’t SEC bias in rankings.

I agree with general premise, but the Illini ranked win over Kansas has lost all allure. Kansas has yet to win an FBS game this year and look terrible. The Nebraska win is good, but who knows how good. Illinois can easily range from 20-30 in rankings.
The good news: October presents two great opportunities for program statement wins. If Illini can get through October at 6-2, then they will be in fringe playoff contention.
There is an absolute bias in AP polls, but everything will steady out in the coming weeks.
If Illinois isn’t ranked this week at 4-1 I’m ok with it. Just puts a little bit of a chip on our shoulders.

While I’d agree with this general premise and for a group like the basketball team that’s been ranked a ton the last 5 years, I think being ranked is very very helpful right now for building the brand to recruits/fans/transfers.

Worst part: Illinois isn't even the biggest snub in his ranking, Boise St isn't there either.

Presuming nothing earth shattering happens next week, we hang on through bye and go into Purdue ranked with an opportunity to claw up a bit before Michigan; I'll take that.
Three of top seven are from the BIG.
Swap us and Indiana. Indiana beat up 3 bad non conference teams, a BAD UCLA team, and got a solid win over a mediocre Maryland team. Meanwhile we beat Nebraska (an upper tier big ten team) on the road and gave Penn St a game.
This is bull shirt! The Illini drop 5 spots after losing to top 25 team. The polls are a joke. They dropped Georgia from #1 to put Texas there and now they drop Texas even though they won to get their beloved Alabama back at 1. Other ranked teams have lost to lesser teams and only dropped 1-2 spots. The Illini deserve to remain at #19.
I love the 24 ranking. If someone had told me in mid-August that we'd be 4-1, I would have taken it all day long. We need Michigan to go to Washington next week and win (then they have a Bye week), and we need to rest on our Bye week and take care of business against Purdue. I have October 19 circled. I want both teams to be 5-1. I want us to destroy Michigan for the 100th celebration of Memorial Stadium. That will elevate us for the rest of the season. Michigan is extremely beatable this year. Cannot wait for the rest of this ride.....
