My rooting system:

I want every ranked team to win every game except ours (to be ranked as high possible before and after our game) and I want every unranked team to lose every game before us (to demoralize them) and against us, then win every game after us (to improve the quality of the win).

So for example, in a game like Michigan and Minnesota, where we play both teams later in the year, my system calls for a Michigan win because theyā€™re ranked and we want them to stay ranked and a Minnesota loss because theyā€™re unranked and we want them demoralized.

If you have a situation where we have played one team already and won, so you would normally root for them to keep winning, but theyā€™re playing a team we have yet to play, root for the team that provides the best case scenario in the future game.

Based on the above system, this week Iā€™m rooting for:

Oregon against Michigan St
Wisconsin against Purdue
Indiana against Northwestern
Nebraska against Rutgers (though this one is dicey since Rutgers is receiving votes so I would understand a Rutgers rooting preference to go for a ranked match up later this year)
Michigan against Washington
USC against Minnesota

Indiana has had a nice schedule for a new coach. Hope Pu gets blasted. Then gets blasted by the Illini. Look at PSU schedule game 5 no road game. Finally Mich goes on the road. Some good games this weekend.

If we are still harboring delusions of grandeur and shooting for the playoff, this philosophy might be altered. An Indiana loss would be beneficial to us even though I enjoy Northwestern reverting to the mean at its rightful place bottom of the conference.

So I know Wisconsin lost their QB, but through 1 1/3 seasons with Fickell are they more in ā€œif you squint you can see what it will look likeā€ mode or ā€œconcernedā€ mode? I would go the latter. Think thereā€™s too much talent on that team to be 10-8 though 18 games.

Based on that graphic posted in last month's Illini football thread I wish we had a rematch against them this year.

So I root for whatever is is in our best interests. Sometimes that means rooting for blue bloods. Sometimes not. It all varies but on all accounts always pro- Illini.

Chez Mellusi - Gone

Looking at their schedule... they probably won't even make a bowl this year. They're 2-2 and PSU, Oregon, @RU, @NEB, @ Iowa are all tough ones with they way their roster and season has gone.

So far it's been pretty much a "stepback" considering some of the past years.

When we play NU, it will essentially be a home game for us or at least a neutral crowd (Wrigley Field)
