EIU was picked to finish 6th in the OVC preseason poll. 2 other Illini OVC opponents, SIUE (3rd) and Little Rock (1st), were picked to finish ahead of them. Panthers return 6 players from last season including 3 starters. Nakyel Shelton and Kooper Jacobi were named players to watch. Shelton is the team's leading returning score at 11 PPG, which was 2nd on last year's team. He had 16 double figure scoring games last season, including 5 with 20 or more points. Jacobi was the team's leading rebounder last season before suffering a season ending injury about midway through the season.

The B$G + has opened up their viewing to all schools instead of just one school and if you do the annual pass it costs $ 94.00 taxes included...................roughly $ 8.00 a month by doing the annual route..........well worth it for me , especially for all the volleyball games as the B$G is a beast conference......and also you get to see all the women's BB and VB games for all schools........JMHO........

These three games before Bama are huge. Get to find a rhythm and flow as a team. I don't expect us to beat Bama, but need to show better than today. If we can win 1/3 of Bama/Tennessee/Arkansas and win all of the other non conf games, that will be pretty good.

Yeah it's really a no brainer to schedule a handful of tough non con games. Good publicity, plus they are zero risk but high reward. Going 0-3 against that group probably only drops you down 1 seed line, but any individual win probably boosts you up a seed line.

Having said that, I'm not worried about those games at all. It's games like these that scare me. This young and inexperienced Illini team seems like the perfect candidate for a head scratching loss that really sticks out on the resume.

I don't think it will be this one, but that Oakland game is a prime candidate.

The Elite 8 program and top B10 team over the last 5 yrs gets the B10+ treatment to start the season? B10 Network doing a disservice for their own ratings much less Illini nation. Going to try to find a working stream for this game

Yes Ivisic was a pleasant surprise. I think think the debate of who should start at the 5 is settled. He also should play the bulk of the minutes in that spot. Morez showed promise but he is not there yet.
Not many 7 footers typically play more than 20ish minutes(Kofi and Edey being 30 minute guys is a outlier).

Wouldn't be surprised to see 20/20 splits or something like 22/18. Though part of me is curious to see if Morez can guard on the perimeter and if you could potentially play both of them at times(I think Morez would feast if opposing teams tried to guard him with 4s).

Kampe is a good coach and has run a solid program but they also basically have an entirely new team with a bunch of guys transferring up levels.

I don't think they are nearly as talented as last year and will also have growing pains. Townsend is at Arizona and Conway is at Washington. Golke, Lampman, and Watts are all out of eligibility.

I thought Ivisic and Morez both played well to be honest and in several aspects outplayed expectations this early in the season. Ivisic moved much faster, had much better positioning, and was much better at affecting shots on the interior than some of the whispers we were hearing. He'll learn to challenge bigs who can shoot the 3, but it's fair to say that he's going to struggle defensively if the opponent goes 5 out. Morez showed he can bang with older more experienced players to win rebounds and win positioning battles without fouling. That's enormous as a freshman.

Overall, I'd say Ivisic and Morez were 2 of our Top 4 players from the scrimmage and both showed me even from an exhibition that they'll both have major contributions this year if allowed to play. So platoon 23/17mpg split or something similar in my opinion

If it was meaningfully hurting their bottom line they wouldn't be doing it.

Whether he's cleared before or after EIU, it feels like Tomi should be cleared within the next month, prior to the Arkansas game on Thanksgiving day.

With the potential of Tomi & Zvonimir matchup, the game could be a storyline showcasing a twin vs. twin battle, or a storyline overshadowing the NCAAs bureaucracy while Tomi sits, and intuition says that the former has college basketball's best interests in mind with hopefully a lot of eyes on that game...

Disappointed in his defense on the three point shot. Would have thought that he'd seen lots of bigs shooting threes in Europe. In his defense, he was trying to protect the rim from an invading horde that was marching past their ole defenders.
