The athletes are courageous. Determined to do their best despite the disabilities and the odds against them. I prefer Paralympics to "regular" Olympics. Amazed at what these athletes can do. Can do.

Another thing: University of Illinois is world leader in wheelchair sports and other stuff and engineering type stuff.

Plus USA/NBC is mentioning The University of Illinois quite often.

Plus there are quite a few - second only to surf-city California - athletes from Illinois/U of I on the USA team.

Go Illini!

Go Paralympians everywhere in the world.

And support your local Illinois Special Olympics agencies.

For those of you who may not be aware, U of Illinois has been a preeminent school at the forefront of fighting for improvements for people with disabilities. Everything from Curb-Cuts, to a multitude of sports, to education. Here is a link that provides some info on UI's early (and continuing) leadership and involvement in providing support to people with disabilities. My daughter, just graduated with a PhD in Special Education from UI, had Brian Siemann as an academic support person.

Please support Special Olympics wherever you are, not just Illinois. Thanks. (The gal I coach, regional champ, is going to Decatur this Saturday for state golf six-hole competition. Go for gold! But just as important, do the best you can do. She hasn't always won gold. But she's gracious when she doesn't; in that respect she's always a big winner).

I watched quite a bit of the USA vs Japan Goalball match yesterday. It's a very interesting sport.
