Unfortunately, I was at that game. In fairness to my son-in-law, he was not even born yetGuess he missed the pointless game.
Forty years ago, Illinois and Northwestern played the worst football game of all time

If we had had McCray (or equal inside threat) it would have opened up Chase's ourside possibility and not allowed Indy to load the inside. Just another position where need more help. In BB's words we are thin at some spots.THIS IMHO is more relevant than the discussion about going for it or NOT .... Didn't see the 'savior' Lunney mindset in this play... again IMHO...
Get what you are saying, but we have some RBs. Love, Anderson, and Laughery may not be at Brown or McCray's level, but we have some guys that could do something, IMO.If we had had McCray (or equal inside threat) it would have opened up Chase's ourside possibility and not allowed Indy to load the inside. Love just didn't look good friday, Laughery just got cleared Wednesday so tough to throw him out there and Anderson just isn't ready yet.Get what you are saying, but we have some RBs. @Indy Illini Fan did you load the inside? If we had had McCray (or equal inside threat) it would have opened up Chase's ourside possibility and not allowed Indy to load the inside. Just another position where need more help. In BB's words we are thin at some spots.
I think it's a great opportunity for Chase Hayden - was a 4* and 5th year guy. Lots of experience and career adversity thus far.Get what you are saying, but we have some RBs. Love, Anderson, and Laughery may not be at Brown or McCray's level, but we have some guys that could do something, IMO.
i don't disagree with going for it, but i disagree with the approach. we were getting attacked with slants and stunts with IU d-line in our backfield. i haven't seen much of the spread from us, but in this case, that approach spreads the defense and gives us better gaps for Tommy or Chase.Analytics tells you to go for it every time in that situation….get it it virtually seals the deal….think it jumps winning probability up to 95-98% and if you don’t only drops win probability by 3ish %
Seriously, I'd appreciate better coordination with Lunney next time. Geez@Indy Illini Fan did you load the inside?
Same here, I had this one penciled in as a loss from the beginning of the season (had Indiana as one of our 5 wins though, argh).Illinois can win this game
That being said I am surprised Illinois is favored in this game. Virginia might have played Richmond but they put up 500+ yards of offense. Scored 34 points and still turned the ball over twice. Brennan Armstrong is a very good QB. Gunslinger who is better than Bazelak by a lot and is quite mobile. I am not down on Illinois at all but this game will be well earned if we come away with a W.
Hoping to see Aidan Laughery this week. Been high on this young man before he committed and see if the game slows down for him once he gets some snaps and the season goes along.
That's all I was hoping for with DeVito... just be better and more decisive than Peters, and take care of the ball.DeVito passer rating at Illinois: 132.3
Peters passer rating at Illinois: 123.1
DeVito's passer rating would have put him at ~8-9th last year (compared to 13th for Peters).
Peter's ratings would've also been higher if his receivers were better at catching the ball. That's all I was hoping for with DeVito... just be better and more decisive than Peters, and take care of the ball.
But also, his rating would be higher if our receivers were better at catching the ball.

Yes, and it makes sense. Even if you fail, you have the other team in horrible field position. That said, I agree with those who said they should have run a different play.Analytics tells you to go for it every time in that situation….get it it virtually seals the deal….think it jumps winning probability up to 95-98% and if you don’t only drops win probability by 3ish %
This has been a hot topic and I have no take on either side. The play didn't work and we got no points....are all the opinions different about the playcall if we scored the TD? (This is directed at no one particular person....just curious)Yes, and it makes sense. Even if you fail, you have the other team in horrible field position. Good point. Line's gotta provide push, and on that particular play the defensive line was in the backfield before CB could make a move. This has been a hot topic and I have no take on either side. I have less interest in the playcalling and more interest in the execution of the play....number of sloppy plays
I meant to place a wager on Virginia +4.5 when I was out of state this weekend. Realized I never locked in it when I got back. Anyway, let's hope that Vegas knows something we don't, just like the lines last week....We have no business being favored in this game. Virginia took it to us last year. That being said, if the maddening Illini football history has shown us anything, it's that we win the games we aren't supposed to, and we lose the one we shouldn't have. Go Illini!!
Illini 35
Virginia 34
