The Vaqueros were 3-2 going into tonight's game with Cal State Fullerton with only one of those wins coming against a D-I school, Northern Arizona. They played at Arizona on November 12th and got squashed 104-50. Their coach is longtime Frank Martin assistant Matt Figger, who is in his first season, in Edinburg, TX. Figger coached the past 4 seasons at Austin Peay.

Would guess no Frazier and possibly no Belo. Gonna be a while till this team hits their stride with so many key guys in and out to start the year. Hutch should have ball in his hands a lot and hopefully gains a lot of confidence in this one.

Arrrgggghh almost a full week until I see the Illini play again since I didn’t go the BIG+ route. It might be difficult given the disparity in talent, but I’d really like to see the team build on last night’s game and run the offense and play stout D. Running up and down the court and winning by 40 really doesn’t do much for the team. I’d rather see Hutch and the freshmen (especially Podz) get experience running the offense and gaining confidence.

This is a much needed growth game. It gets rough again next week.
We are gonna have to figure out whether we are a half court set offense or get the ball and run offense. Get it and go. We have the athletes.

Injury speculation is off topic.

Requesting info on injury updates is off topic.

Tim Anderson had been an assistant at UT Pan-American for a couple years, before a merger turned it into UTRGV.

Does anyone know what the team normally does for Thanksgiving? It seems like it would be smart to delay the big meal until after this game but I am not sure how the players would feel about that. Need to come out focused so the bench can get into the rotation

ND and Rutgers at home. I doubt it. Would be very surprised.
Not sure I follow the comment but if you think Rutgers and ND are soft this year I doubt it. ND has only lost to St Mary’s, which perennially competes well in the WCC, and Rutgers has only lost a couple close games. Seems like they’re still figuring some things out too - just like us. But both teams are well coached and have enough talent to give us a lot of grief, especially with how discombobulated we seem to be lately. If we can’t get healthy and figure things out we could easily lose to both teams. The further we get into the season with injured PGs and not being able to practice together and get a rhythm together, the harder it’s going to be to catch up with other P5 teams’ growth. I’m afraid it could be a rough few weeks for Illini fans. That’s not to say we won’t be good to really good by the end of the season, I just hope we don’t dig our hole too deep out of the gate.
