With the way players are transferring programs won’t want to waste resources and time on players for them to redshirt and leave. Maybe players will sign multi year contracts and that will be more common.

Adding to this. Several states players can earn nil while still in high school. 2027 qb recruit Trae Taylor has a management team and already has a nil deal. High school and college sports will look very different in the next couple years.

College sports is no different than a job
If you transfer / quit every year you will not learn and develop new skills
Smart people play the long game.

If I could get a $1 million pay raise each year after quitting my job, I will have already learned a life skill that will pay dividends well beyond what decades as an office drone will teach me.

In Illinois you have to have 4 years of English to graduate. Do these colleges just accept these re-classified basketball players without a high school diploma?

My son just completed sophomore year in high school but has completed classes that I had as a senior. Also, can’t you test out of subjects?

NCAA requires high school diploma or a GED earned during or after what would be a senior year. Nobody said these reclassifying players had to graduate an Illinois high school to attend Illinois.

You can take extra English courses in your high school and a lot of these online high school course programs have their courses NCAA approved. To get courses NCAA approved through a high school, those schools simply submit the names of the courses. Nothing else. The NCAA will approve most high school courses based on that alone. In cases where they deny a course it is because the name references something basic or remedial, and then a school has to submit documents to get those courses reviewed again. All of these online programs advertise that their courses are NCAA approved and they couldn't do that ethically unless they were. So these students who are clearly on track to graduate a year early likely planned that from 9th grade or are able to quickly take an online course 2nd semester of junior year.

I also bet players at prep academies have an easier time meeting requirements to graduate early and reclassify just based on the nature of how the academic part of those academies is set up (individualized academic development and path, virtual classes, etc).

As far as I know you cannot test out of the English requirement. Maybe you can take 2 English classes in a year.

Yes high schools can be incredibly advanced in classes compared to when I went to school. My son will be a senior and his calc and physics are what I took my second semester in college at Illinois. My high school had no AP classes and he will have taken 7 after this year. I think they offer 20+ options for AP at his school.

Correct, it’s not really the number of years but the number of credits. I’ve had students take three credits on English in a year.

AAAAND...back to basketball recruiting!! How are we doing with JJ?
The metrics behind being able to reclassify is about recruiting. There's not going to be news every day about a kid's thoughts or updates on when they use the toilet. It's the summer. Believe it or not, these 17 year old kids live their lives.

The commentary is very much on topic, though I can certainly understand you wanting actual news.

If Jasper's leaning reclass, gotta imagine we'll hear about it sometime within the next month or so. It's already mid July...so...sometime after Peach Jam probably?

(for reclassing) At the very least, there's a considerable chance I guess...right? I mean...if there's any lesson to learn with this NIL world...it's that if reclassing is an option on the table, there's definitely a considerable chance. Who knows which way he's leaning...

Probably nothing but just an absolute dream but...

This:

Guards: Jasper, KJ, Kylan, DGL
Wings: Riley, Ty, Tre (Davis I think will redshirt if this happens)
4s: Ben, Booth
5s: Ivisic, Morez

Goodness gracious...

Are there any new reports on how the summer scrimmages are going? I also wonder what the NCAA allows in terms of summer coaching. I think there are limits.
