I dislike the slant most. But the script just doesn’t work on a football helmet or in an end zone very well IMO. Although, it sure looks great on a basketball uni.

It’ll never happen but this logo with a white and navy strip down the middle. That is one versatile sharp logo…that we don’t make enough use out of IMO.

The blue one is a classic example of something that looks really cool as an object sitting on a table, but you make it part of the uniform and we don't look or feel like Illinois Football.

Honestly, I've been a ILLINOIS hater most of my life. The new helmet looks really good on the field and I've changed my tune.

The real question is where does the Block I helmet fit in the list? Definitely in front of Blue script Illinois. It's on the same #3 tier for me with the orange script Illinois.

Count me in with the very few that likes the number only helmet best. Old school tough look.

My first in-person football game ever was Tony Eason's first game so I am biased to the arch. Too many years later my educated opinion is that the arched ILLINI is still a unique logo in college athletics. The Chief was the pinnacle of original, unique and dignified sports logo, but it will take time to bring that back. The script is good as well, but I don't think it works on a football helmet. The arched ILLINI over the helmet earhole or following the curve of the head works perfectly and translates well to hats, jackets and other gear. The slant ILLINOIS works, but it is a vanilla NY Giants rip-off; not unique and imo indicates a bush-league mentality to branding.

We have a similar reason for our helmet preference.. My first in person football game was in 1963.

Got an unfairly bad rap because of its close association with Guenther and some very bad years. The stylistic complaints about it (“wahhh, they copied the Giants”) were always silly. Honestly the format works even better for the word “Illinois” than it does for “Giants”

I do not like the shield. It’s just eh. I know a lot of schools use letters but the block I is strong, forceful and stable, in the shield it’s reduced to s secondary element,

I still dislike the old logo with the orange block I and the blue ILLINOIS across the front. I probably let that cloud judgment of the helmet logo.

ILLINOIS is just so clean on the helmet.

The shield originated during a time when soccer-style crests or badges were a fad and when very minimalist design was prevalent.

I like it on a soccer jersey, but that’s about it. I’m not totally against having a crest-style secondary logo (think the Ravens’ secondary logo), but I don’t think we absolutely MUST have one.

I don’t think the script is as bad on a helmet as some think, but I’d still save it for special events. I’d use the arched Illini most of the time, save the slant Illinois for our orange jerseys and maybe a couple of road games, and save the script for a big game or a bowl game.

Yeah, my issue was always plastering the text over the Block I ... text over a block letter almost never works for me unless it is this super old / vintage look your program has always had, and ours was the opposite. However, I will admit that I also didn't like the Slant ILLINOIS helmets back when they were the default ... they have aged like fine wine in my eyes, and the removal of the navy outline (which was there during the Zook years, for example) to go with the original pre-2005 version really made me realize how clean they looked.

I'll go further, it is a very useful combo for being on the road color vs color games. The all-Navy look would good to break out in road games vs thee likes of Nebraska and Ohio State. Likewise the all Orange look would be great vs Michigan, Iowa, and Mizzou.
