Seems like it, we've gotten more $, but we're not keeping pace with the top 15 or so, would be my guess.

I'd also guess that the hoops success has stolen some potential $ from football, but that is pure speculation.

bball is going more nil support because we made a final 4 and donors are putting up more money.

Some college teams are spending over 40 million. The number I heard for our roster was 15 million.

Bart is bad at recruiting and developing HS recruits. I really wonder how BB keeps him around.

Prep evals and development have been bad. But he has done a good job with the transfers and juco players. Knapik, Adams, Davis, Gesky, Palcho, Lowe..etc have all developed under Miller.

right now Henderson and McMillen are the only prep recruits that have started. Champ smith and Hansen are guys that will also play this year. Tuerk also has a chance to play.

I guess the ol' Montana vibe is not connecting with defensive recruits.
Also, can Bart Miller just not recruit, or is it more of a money thing with prep OL?
I'll be nice and describe our actual OL recruiting vs what I thought it would be under BB as "underwhelming."

A guy like Wagner will cost a ton of money. It doesn’t make sense for us to spend a ton of money on him so he can sit for a couple years. Lopati would’ve cost a few million. It makes no sense for us to pay that for him to come in and develop for a year or 2

The results of this recruiting class seem unprecedented in the BB era. One commit is currently the lowest of all Big Ten teams and it's not close as a lot of teams have 10+ commits. The IL high school class is all over the place and not for its home State school, which is baffling given the focus over the years on the in-state recruits. These other schools can't have more money than IL, but perhaps the allocation of $$ for retention is disproportionate. Hard to say, but the results are not looking good. I believe in BB, though so we will see how this shakes out!!

I’m sure he’s banking on 5 for 5 passing. If that happens we can bring guys back like Faegin, Henderson, Juice Clarke and Abney. It’ll also mean a lot more guys will be in the portal. Time will tell if he played his cards right.

We need to pivot... Men's BB is fighting the disease of more... Football the disease of less... Scrapping Henry and co. burned alot of relationships that's my guess

agree 100%
until transferring becomes a less common occurrence, like just once in years 2-4, it makes very little sense to pay 18-19 year olds to just practice & watch games from the sidelines .

IU went undefeated & won a natty with all transfers . upperclassmen in as many two-deep spots as possible is the way to go .

it’ll pass . he seems to know a little bit more about it than Joe Fan
No doubt he knows more and is highly capable. Perhaps we are encountering the Illinois football ceiling

Mac is another player that would have another year of eligibility. So that’s 5 less scholarships right there with the players I listed. If this goes through the portal should be crazy and it makes sense to focus on the portal and getting older.

I have no isse in taking small high school classes. If we can get older men to join. Based off this portal season and our success the pass 3 season. Color me terrified. Teams are paying out 20 to 40 million. We will absolutely never sniff CFP, with no huge dollar volume, and the staff to get them to Champaign.
