Wow, #3 overall is the guy that used to play in-state, right?

Although early, consensus top 12.

Pretty much meaningless, but On3 has us leading.

Tbh, can't see us even being in the realm for a prospect like this unless the wins take a leap. That's what it really comes down to IMO (in addition to NIL, etc). Gotta win games. Gotta establish as a winning problem...consistently. It's certainly been better but there's another step.

I'm implementing a moratorium on posters claiming it's okay to lose him to the [insert blue blood name here] of the world. Georgia Tech just got one of the best HS tackles in the country. Illinois has lots of built-in benefits in this recruitment. It's going to be a crazy competition to get him, I get it, but if you aren't willing to win this once every 5-10 years than stop doing all-out blitz's on young prospects and spend your resources elsewhere. I still think the loss of prospects like Nathaniel Marshall this year is a concern, let's rectify this issue going forward.

i’m puzzled as to what is the correct response to a program like GaTech that is willing to throw 800,000 per year at a freshmen OLineman.

Unless it’s a multi year deal. What’s to stop that kid from transferring after a semester and getting another bag from someone else. For us right now money is better spent on transfers

It’s believed our nil pool for football is in the if 6-8 million. If we are throwing that kind of money at a hs recruit theirs not much left over for the rest of the roster

Exactly, that money is better spent on getting proven players like JC Davis, Terrence Brooks, etc.

Freshmen linemen are always a huge risk at not panning out because physical attributes are useless if they can't learn technique. Some of these maulers in high school are getting away with being able to lean and grab and that doesn't cut it in major college ball. Recruiting services will still overrank players because they're lazy and cheap so they go off of Hudl highlights only

You sure on $6-8 just for football? From what an insider hinted at a few months ago, our football NIL seemed to be in the $2.5-3 range. And just for perspective, $6-8 would project us as a Top 25 NIL spending team on football based on 2023 leaks. We're talking Clemson, Auburn, Florida, Ole Miss, Mizzou money. So doesn't seem likely. $2.5-3 is Rutgers, Minnesota range which does track. I could definitely buy us having $6-8M in NIL for our whole athletic department though

Chase describes transferring to Illinois as, “The best decision I ever made.”

The Chase and Sydney Brown story is certainly a great one.

I hope these two fine young men were good enough to reward Mom with something really nice, like a new house, from the money they are making in football now.
