Illinois at Penn State, Saturday, September 28th, 6:30pm CT, NBC

He was limping badly after the game even though he went back in-I would just rest him for the next couple weeks so he can heal- I’d play a 100% elzy over a 70% Franklin
I thought you were joking initially.

If Franklin can play, then he needs to. There is a bye week to heal up. Maybe he won't get as many snaps, but you can't sit a top 2 receiver in prime time against a top 10 team.

Ah, here's another of that Casey Washington catch. The photographer on the lower left just missed his shot of the day.

In stark contrast to the Husker board before last Friday's game, I am seeing quite a lot of respect on the PSU message board I checked out. Sure, a lot of them think they will win (if our #9 Illini basketball team were hosting #19 Penn State in the House of 'Paign, would we not expect to win??), but they are giving us our due and then some.
If it were anyone other than Penn State (basketball). It'll take some time to shake those thoughts.

Agreed. They think they'll win (completely normal fan thoughts), but the majority of them do have concerns about this one. Most also agree with us that the line is ridiculous. PSU fans for the most part seem to think that we're going to be a big test for them and you're not seeing a whole lot of the same "Illinois is a cakewalk, we're going to blow them out" energy that a lot of Nebraska fans had. They definitely seem to be taking our team seriously and you can tell there's a nervous energy there. Now we have to go in there and play the part. And I'll say the same thing I said before we played Nebraska, the most important thing that we can do is take an early lead, hopefully on our first drive and not fall behind by 2 or more scores early. If we can keep this to a one possession game at halftime, that nervousness from PSU will only build from there. And if we tie it or pull ahead in the 4th quarter, Luke just has that look that he's going to take us on a long drive and close it out. Gotta play smart and not fall behind early and we'll give ourselves a chance. Man, if we could make this happen...

This. If nothing else, you need to make the defense account for him. If they think they can just double up PB and make our other receivers beat them, that'll make it tougher for our offense. You want them second guessing for at least a half of football.

He was cleared to go back in against the Huskers they just kept him out as a precaution. An extra day of rest and he should be good to go.

That is some extremely good news. You never know how people are going to feel the day after. Having a still healthy team going into this game is huge.
remind me, is Boyer more of a pass catching threat compared with Arkin or its just good to get healthy at the position?

My #1 concern for this game is Luke's handling of pressure. He still waits a bit too long to get rid of the ball or take off if it's not a designed run. If he can limit the tackles for loss, I think it's going to be a very close game!
Yep, he's going to need to speed up his clock a bit. Thankfully, our playcalling has some variety on who our safety valve options can be.

Dixon has been getting good releases off the line in the slot and is finding soft spots in the zone. The catch on 3rd and 7 was the result of a well executed progression.

Arkin also got a good release on a few of his targets. I was surprised to see his versatility in the H-back role.

Our scheme doesn't have many patterns for RBs out of the backfield, and when we did against Kansas, it was a wide open drop. But we'll need to bake in a few of these (simple middle of the field dump off routes on a 5 step hitch: circle/shallow hooks/angles) to somewhat force their LBs to stay home a bit.

Birds Nest in Lincoln Park on Southport.

Very well known local spot for wings and beer…usually a rowdy atmosphere on the weekends. You’ll need to get there a little earlier though to get a table.I live about 5 min away…

I’m not a huge fan of Joes on Weed (always doesn’t feel crowded to me because of how big it is) but to the other poster, it definitely will have a lot of Illini people there.

not football , but I remember a basketball game where the Illini wore orange jersey's and wisky wore red jersey's......it was a color confusion and hard to watch.........it really really was....................
Especially for those of us born with red-green colorblindness. I can tell orange from red unless they are layered upon each other.

Not hard to fix.
