My man, Thanksgiving was last week.Kevin Willard (arrived last spring from Seton hall) has the Terps playing hard for him. Donta Scott is back underneath, lost weight and is a handful. They picked up grad transfer guards in Jahmir young form Charlotte and Don Carey from Georgetown. Hakim Hart is back at guard and Julian Reese at forward. They beat St Louis and Miami handily, both of whom are ~ 50 in Torvik ratings. Torvik has them tonight at #18 v. Illinois @ #12.
Should be a tough game for the Illini. Wild card is whether Terp fans will show up in force on the Friday night after Thanksgiving. Attendance took a nosedive last year after Turgeon quit, and the team ended up in the bottom third of the BT. Though they played us tight in Champaign and beat us in College Park a couple weeks later when we were without Kofi (Edey-induced concussion) and Curbelo (flu and ongoing concussion struggles). And they beat us that evening in a relatively empty Xfinity Center.
There's a buzz about the team right now but I read something recently where Willard was complaining about attendance and fan enthusiasm.
People in Maryland are a little slowMy man, Thanksgiving was last week.
a split will be TOUGH and I think very welcome. On the road @ Maryland where Illinois has historically struggled and a team viewed as about as good as Illinois, and then a neutral site game against the current number 1 in the KenPom. I think we'd all be really happy with a split, regardless of which one is the Win.Gotta at minimum split the next 2. Torn between which game I’d rather win if I had to choose. Texas is a bigger statement, but Maryland is a conference game.
If I had to choose, gimme Maryland. Or better yet, win em both.
Thanksgiving is every Thursday for me. I'm all about gratitude. My man, Thanksgiving was last week.
