'Great sign' for a rookie: Alex Caruso praises Ayo Dosunmu's defense
The second-round pick out of Illinois displayed his defensive chops during his rookie campaign.

I don't care what metric they used. Ayo is not weak defensively.Based on the charts they have on there, it looks like his defensive rebounding and his defensive +/- (i.e. how much opponent scores against you while you're on the court versus when you're not).
Seriously, he basically put Trae Young in his back pocketI don't care what metric they used. Ayo is not weak defensively.
It's not that it can't happen, but that is likely when the biggest jump occurs. Just like Freshman to Sophomore in college. At the highest level of pro sports, if you don't carve out a role quickly, you will get passed in short order. If everything else is equal, they will play the younger guy 100% of the time. That's still ridiculous that a player drafted by their junior/senior year can only improve for a year in NBA.
Ayo good on D against point guards but not so much when he got switched to a longer 3 or 4 which happened a lot.I don't care what metric they used. Ayo is not weak defensively.

That's probably true. He seemed to bother smaller players more. He has to defend to at least 3 but he will have time to learn. I think he will be fine.Ayo good on D against point guards but not so much when he got switched to a longer 3 or 4 which happened a lot.
True....but you and I know he's gonna be both....Being a good college defender and a good NBA defender are two different things.

Agreed but has he failed at getting better...or afraid of hard work to get there yet? I'm betting on him....I don't know that. He's only been in the NBA one season. There's no guarantee he's going to be a good NBA defender at this point.

Someone suggested it indicated his defense was weak. Perhaps not. My eyes told me his on ball defense was outstanding. His off ball defense needs some work. Overall it was good, especially for a rookie.I know you said that you didn't care about the analytics but the analytics didn't say he was an overall bad defender but that he was just lacking in two certain areas.
So, to clarify, this is showing he's terrible at on ball defense, right? ... right?
I think he’s in the middle on defending LeBron...don't understand this graft....lolSo, to clarify, this is showing he's terrible at on ball defense, right? ... right?
I mean, he's kinda all by himself over there.....
I think it means that he's exceptionally terrible at guarding Lebron for how exceptionally great he is at on-ball defense in general. So, to clarify, this is showing he's terrible at on ball defense, right? ... right?

Very disappointing...And here I thought the Bulls drafted Ayo to lock down Lebron....Invaluable data.I think it means that he's exceptionally terrible at guarding Lebron for how exceptionally great he is at on-ball defense in general.
But I'm not sure because this is a terrible plot.
Looks more mediocre at guarding lebron, no? He’s just below the midpoint.I think it means that he's exceptionally terrible at guarding Lebron for how exceptionally great he is at on-ball defense in general.

I meant considering how good he is in general. You'd think he would follow the trend but his "D-Lebron" is considerably worse than others with comparable overall on-ball D.Looks more mediocre at guarding lebron, no? He’s just below the midpoint.
How many times did he guard Lebron? Very limited sample set I'm assuming.I meant considering how good he is in general. You'd think he would follow the trend but his "D-Lebron" is considerably worse than others with comparable overall on-ball D.
