Illinois returned from the holiday break and got roundly beat by Xavier Friday night in Cincinnati. It was the Illini's worse game of the season. The final score (65-59) was not indicative of the competitiveness of the game. Xavier had a 52-40 lead with 3:00 to go when Jamar Smith went on a 3-pt scoring run to close the margin to 6. Illinois opens Big Ten play Wednesday night at Michigan. Recap. Tupper. Thread.
