Jamar Smith Ignites Illini

Finally facing solid competition, Illinois had to rally to get a pair of tough victories this weekend
in the Chicago Invitational Challenge at the new Sears Centre. Friday against Miami (Ohio), the Illini
prevailed 51-49 in a defensive slugfest. Trailing most of the game, Illinois clawed back on the
strength of Shaun Pruitt's first career double-double (12 pts, 10 rebs) and Chester Frazier's go-ahead
driving layup with 0:18 to go.
Against the Bradley Braves on Saturday, Illinois once again had to play catchup. Jamar Smith was the difference for the Illini, scoring 14 off the bench in his first action since an ankle sprain suffered in game 1 against Austin Peay. Smith's 3-pt with 5:44 to go gave the Illini the lead for good; Warren Carter was high score with 17.
Up next is the ACC Big Ten Challenge game against #25 Maryland Tuesday 6:00pm at the Hall.
