Iowa Hawkeyes
January 24, 2005 10:00 AM
Iowa went toe-to-toe against Illinois Thursday night and played with a kind of vigor and vitality the Illini fans (and players?) perhaps were not prepared to face. A cozy 13-point lead in the 2nd halfthe Hawks refused to die. 6 point lead with 1:00 to go? The Hawks refused to die! For the game's (and season's) most terror-inducing sequence, Iowa had a terrific chance for victory down 2 with 10 seconds left, but they smartly took what the D gave them and hit a short jumper to send it to overtime, where Illinois finally decided to hit their free-throws to prevail.
