April 1, 2009 8:33 AM
Although the announcement won't be made official until some time this weekend, Illinois Prep Bulls-eye has learned through reliable sources that 6'3 guard Brandon Paul from Warren Township High School in Gurnee, IL has been named the winner of the 2009 Mr. Basketball award in Illinois. Mr. Basketball is voted on by various members of the Illinois high school basketball media.
Paul edged out Waukegan's Jereme Richmond (who is the #1 player in Illinois from the class of 2010) for the award. This past season Paul led Warren to the Class 4A sectional final at Waukegan where ironically enough, he staged a classic battle versus Richmond in one of the best state tournament games that we have witnessed in ages.
